Homemade Jellyfish Repellant

Any of you geniuses ever create an effective homemade jellyfish repellant? Would be interesting to see what non toxic household products could be useful.

Any of you geniuses ever create an effective homemade jellyfish repellant? Would be interesting to see what non toxic household products could be useful.

Non toxic household products? Be hard to find a company producing any household product that is completely non-toxic. So I will assume what you mean to refer to are naturally occurring things like vinegar, garlic, lemon juice, oregano oil, stuff like that. And just because it's natural , doesn't make it safe either. Something in a concentration that would irritate a jellyfish would most probably give a human a negative reaction too.
The problem in developing an effective natural repellent is the salt water environment in which they live. What natural substance ever you try would have to be extremely insoluble in water or it would be washed away quickly. Additionally, ant hydrophobic substance you might try still has to have some way to signal and repel the jellyfish. There is one treatment made in Israel based on clownfish mucous or something like that. Supposed to be the only effective repellent so far. Apart from that you are reduced to treating the stings or just avoid the water during the jellyfish season which lasts only a couple of months.

Set off some kind of explosive in the water where you want to swim and send a shockwave through the water and that will keep them away.
