Hey,

I went to a dry wood fired swedish sauna yesterday and when home i noticed my Libido skyrocketed...

What could be the mechanism behind this (no there were no young attractive ladies in the sauna)

Cheers

i have read on here somewhere that really hot saunas release PUFA from tissues. I have experienced this, had strong nightmares afterwards. Maybe libido was stress/oestrogen driven (?) i have infrared saunas every so often which can crash blood sugar (same as hot bath), so I drink OJ. Or maybe your experience was a temporary boosting of metabolism (?)

It's just due to improved blood flow. Not everything is explainable by fancy metabolic theories.

Agreed. Things that improve peripheral blood circulation (blood flowing to your peripheries - hands, feet, etc.) will improve blood flow to your genitals. This is easy to demonstrate from the opposite direction: When you're super cold, your blood constricts to protect your internal organs leaving your hands and feet cold and your genitals extra flaccid. Shrinkage, anyone?

A few things that improve peripheral blood circulation (at least temporarily):

- Alcohol consumption: Moderate alcohol consumption increases peripheral blood flow as your body tries to flush toxins out through your skin. This is why you feel warmer and get a "beer jacket" after a few drinks. Unfortunately, every frat boy has struggled with the fine line where "n" drinks help with erection strength, but "n+1" drinks kill any chance of getting it up.

-Warmer body temperature: This can be achieved through mechanical means such as saunas and wearing more clothes (worsening the body's ability to lose heat to the environment), or metabolic means via improving your baseline temps (improving the body's ability to produce heat internally). As your core body temperature increases, the body sends more blood to the periphery to encourage heat loss.

I think this is one of the big reasons why people who improve their temps through Peat style eating or temperature resets usually see improvements in libido.

I'm sure blood flow is a factor but probably a small one. The body simply functions better when it is heated and a hotter environment is a cue to reproduce (spring time).

Viagra allows metabolically damaged, out-of-shape, 70 year old men to get erections by increasing blood flow to the penis, so it's hard to argue that blood flow isn't a major factor.

At a very high level, erections occur when sexual arousal leads muscles in your penis to relax and allow blood to rush in. During ED, these muscles don't relax sufficiently to allow enough blood to enter the penis. I'm arguing that in a low metabolic state (low temps and pulse), your body is afraid that internal organs will be damaged if too much blood flow is diverted to your groin. The best solution is to fix your metabolism so that your body can produce enough heat to keep internal organs warm even when blood is being diverted.

But even in a low metabolic state, you can temporarily get these penis muscles to relax by either directly inhibiting them (what Viagra does) or by forcing your body to increase peripheral blood circulation (e.g. the things I mentioned above: alcohol, sauna, turning up the heat in your apartment).

it boost your healing. Infrared saunas do excrete lipophilic toxins very good with out harming your body. It increases bloodflow everything thats why is red light so good it stimulates healing in tissues it pushes out waste product

I think the theory of hairy men with slightly too short towels which allows one to gaze upon drops of sweat streaming over a generous waistline towards copious butt-cheeks is more likely.

I notice this too. Lovemaking is much more on my mind and is highly pleasurable after the sauna.

Saunas also heavily deplete iodine which is anti estrogenic, therefore estrogen rises

will infared is helpful slightly and that heats the body. So I can't see why sanuas would be bad? keeping hands and feet warm helps reduce nitric oxide cold increases nitric oxide.
