Hi all,

I have been peating for about 4 months now.

my concern is my labs

my triglycerides, and cholesterol (LDL)
are high, and my AST is mildly elevated (in the 70s with 50s being the upper limit)

background:
25 y/o
6’2
200 Lbs
in shape

Diet includes

Oj, grape juice, coffee, gelatinfruit, sucrose, potatoes, ice cream, beef, haddock, shrimp, apple sauce, well cooked broccoli & cabbage, butter, coconut oil, eggs, cheese, skim milk, Creamer, oysters, liver

I keep my fat intake under 100 grams a day from satfat and aim for a total 2500-3k calories a day.

supplements include:

Supplements currently using:
Vit a,d,e,k b-complex, niacinamide, magnesium, taurine/glycine, tyromix, pregnenolone, occasional aspirin 1-2 times a week

Pansterone/Progesterone 1 drop each as needed for sleep

Cholesterol Plr/Ser 229 ref range 120-200
Trigl SerPl-mCnc 440.0 mg/dl ref range 10-150
HDL 39.0 mg/dL ref range 40-59
LDL 148 ref range 1-100

additional labs:

Estradiol 27.9 ref range 7.6-42.6 pg/mL
Estrone 56 ref range 15-65 pg/mL
Testosterone 741 ref range 264-916 ng/dL
Free Testosterone 23.1 ref range 9.3-26.5 pg/mL
TSH 2.20 ref range 0.40 - 4.70 uIU/mL
AST-V 73 ref range 14-59 IU/L
FT3 3.3 ref range 1.7-3.7 pg/ml
PTH 38.7 ref range 9.0-77.0

I looked through the forum at similar posts and couldn’t find anyone with triglycerides as elevated as mine, I’m not sure what approach to implement, as I already use liver friendly supplements and dose vit k 10-15 mg daily, along with, coffee etc...

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Any luck finding what may be causing you high triglcerides?

Latest blood work:

LDL 41 (<130)
HDL 33 (>40)
Triglycerides 1087 (0 - 150)
Glucose: 90 (70 - 100)
TSH: 1.72 (.35 - 5.50)
Total testosterone: 405 (250 - 1100)
Free testosterone: 100 (35 - 155)

Age: 45
Height: 5’6
Weight: 160

My triglycerides have doubled every visit over the last two years. My alcohol intake has consistently increased on a yearly basis

The odd thing is that my ldl has consistently been around 150 over the preceding years, something made it jump all the way down to 41 which is way too low. The only thing that I can think of is the 20 mg daily of Policosanol that I introduced 6 months prior to the latest test. I also stopped eating eggs on a daily basis.

I am completing follow up blood work in 1 month. I am stopping alcohol completely and bringing back daily eggs. Will keep taking Policosanol. I will introduce 500 mg daily of flush Niacin. Will also increase daily magnesium dose to 400 mg (was 120 mg). Will increase daily Taurime to 1000 mg (was 100 mg)

I am more concerned about triglycerides...

Hi Gypsumking,

thankyou for your response

I am supposed to get an abdominal ultrasound. I am just waiting on that. and I have upped my magnesium intake so I’ll be inquiring my gp to retest my trigs next time we speak. Have you any ideas regarding this?

Hi High_Prob,

I don’t drink and I am unsure the connection of how drinking will affect triglycerides. I would think cutting alcohol consumption would lower your triglycerides but if they are that high I would also believe that there is something besides drinking that is affecting that (as I don’t drink and have high trigs) If you find a solution or make any modifications please let us know. Also when you get your blood work back let me know how that goes! I’ll do the same. Hopefully we can come to a solution together, as high triglycerides is a marker for other health concerns if sustained for a period of time.

I wouldn't freak out until retesting. I've seen these tests give wildly different results depending on the day tested. 3 of my co-workers got tested at work and came back with total cholesterol over250 and freaked out. They went to a real lab and came back normal

Have you tested your ALT as well?

I have a similar blood work pattern and got recently diagnosed with chronic hypervitaminosis A, which caused liver injury and thus high triglycerides and cholesterol, even though I was on a stricly low-fat whole foods diet.

So it must have been from beta carotene then?
