High Iron Saturation, Normal Ferritin

This has been in my labs for a while now. By Peat’s standards, my ferritin IS high (low-mid 100’s) but my Iron Saturation is always 60 something percent. I am white w/ Irish ancestry so perhaps higher chance I have HH, I have never done the genetic testing.

Two questions, could the high iron % contribute to my brain fog and malaise?

Would supplementing Calcium help things?

I think so. I am in the same boat. My ferritin is 75 and my saturation is 47%. They should test you for HH if TS is above 45%. I am a carrier for rs1799945; which increases the risk.

While ferritin is often high in HH, it is not always high. It can be normal and result in something called "iron avidity," which is when there is essentially functional iron-deficiency yet toxic iron overload in tissues. Basically the iron is not being utilized properly. The usual treatment in these instances is actually supplemental iron (to a point).

I would do further testing with a doc.
