In support of Ray's views that delayed puberty and childlike ability to learn are associated with higher intelligence, while "adult" cognition is a hallmark of low IQ.

http://journalistsresource.org/studies/ ... -children#

"...We found that the period of childlike levels of environmental influence was prolonged in higher-IQ individuals, whereas lower-IQ individuals shifted earlier to an adultlike pattern."

"...“Our findings raise the question of why a prolonged sensitive period in IQ development might be associated with higher IQ,” the scholars state, and also what the mechanism might be. On the one hand, prolonged immaturity could be beneficial for long-term cognitive development, but on the other, children who eventually have a high IQ score tend to do well early in development. Another possibility is that “heightened levels of attention and arousal, as one may find in individuals of higher IQ, may allow plasticity to occur later into development.”

The environmental estrogenic substances are responsible for earlier menstruation in girls and the age keeps getting younger and younger. Higher estrogen levels for boys too.

The media influence children to dress and behave sexually, and children do emulate their favorite stars. Some parents push their children to achieve academic "excellence" but no play at all. Education for the most part for all is a joyless, uncreative, assembly line activity to mold the child to be obedient to the corporate masters.

Sadly, children can't be children anymore!

A very good theory. Openness and liberalism both correlate positively with IQ, and probably correlate with playfulness and "childlike" behavior as well. The brain is still in development in such people. In contrast, close-minded, conservative people are virtually "done". They don't stay alert or assimilate new information, they are "mature" and "developed". Instead of challenging their intelligence by actively adapting to various situations, they are stuck using "standardized methods". Therefore, it can lead to lower intellectual development. On the other hand, poor physiology can lead to both poor openness/plasticity and poor IQ.
