I forgot coffee, liver, honey and sugar! I'm currently taking 1/4 cynoplus twice per day. I've been adjusting my thyroid dose over the last year. My last TSH was 1.12 so it's not perfect but moving in the right direction. For me this has been an unfolding process with a few minor set backs due to extreme stress from family issues but the important thing is I'm still continuing to notice progress. Thanks for your kind thoughts Lindsay! I think things will continue to improve for you as well! You seem very attuned to your body and needs. I'm currently taking a break from the medical field and hope to never go back. I'm doing office type clerical work for now until I figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

Oh yes - coffee, honey and sugar!! Staples in my diet as well - I just wish I liked liver, but I can't stomach the stuff. I supplement K2 and sometimes A to make up for it, but I want to try a new recipe and also some beef tongue, which I've heard is delicious :) I haven't had a blood test in awhile (aside from pre-surgery blood work), but when I was taking 2 grains of Cynoplus last year, it was close to zero. However, I don't think it's that low anymore. I'm glad to hear that you realized you needed a career change - that takes a lot of courage. I think most people are miserable (or at least terribly stressed) by their jobs. I turned to freelancing shortly after getting married because I couldn't handle the stress. I hope you will find your path and a career that suits you and your health better :) Best wishes to you!!
Thank you so much Lindsay! I'm much happier and warmer since the job change. Best wishes to you too! Peat's courage to speak the truth and not compromise has been an inspiration for me.

Mmmm. I get one of these from time to time. Most of them get corned like corned beef, which I don't want, so I have to ask the butcher if they've got any they haven't got around to yet. Easy to slice up and freeze a couple of portions for another day, too.

How do you cook it Tara?? There is a fantastic butcher a few minutes drive from me and I really want to get the beef tongue there - especially now that winter is rolling in..... I need more beef during the winter months!

I just cover with water in a pot and boil for maybe 2 hrs. Not sure if that is the optimal time - it might be too long. I usually add salt sometime during cooking. Once cooked, drain water and remove the tough skin layer. Some people press it - put in a bowl with a plate and extra weight on top for a while - but I don't bother. I've seen people add bay leaves to the cooking water. I enjoy slices of it hot or cold. Sometimes my kids will eat it, sometimes not.
I think someone here - maybe Jenn? - said the skin is a good source of gelatine, but I haven't figured out a good way to use it.

sunmountain, you are able to edit your first post to update the list.

Charlie, If i edit my post, I can't see the rest of the posts to copy from. I can use the quotes, then I see some but not all. I can handwrite material from the other posts then go back to my original and edit it -- unlesss there is a way to see ALL the other posts while I edit my original post.

I would find a listing of symptoms under each category very helpful. Since the hormones are interrelated, many symptoms might be common. Below is an ongoing summary of posts listing symptoms.

High Estrogen:
- pain in breasts
- pelvic pain
- increased risk of migraine
- brain fog

High Cortisol:
- insomnia
- fat around my middle
- increased risk of diabetes

Adrenaline:
- racing heartbeat
- cold hands and feet

High Serotonin:
- gut issues
- increased risk of migraine

High Prolactin:
- scalp pain
- hair loss
- decreased libido
- sore nipples

Right, I'm going to do that because what I tried didn't work and put the revised post at the bottom.

ok, Charlie, I was able to do it using a second tab!

Going forward, members can feel free to edit my original post, if that is possible.

Charlie, feel free to delete my interim attempts to summarizing, if you want to.

Thanks

I notice that bad bowel movements bring with it a host of serotonin symptoms. Most pronounced is the helplessness/despair/catastrophization i.e. "I'm never going to fix this, I'll be like this forever, what's the point of it all" and thinking things much worse than they actually are.

Blossom, may I ask, what were your serotonin levels at when they were their highest?

I have in my notes that Ray says whole blood serotonin should be around 25, but I'm not positive if I have that right. Do you happen to know?

I'm not sure what Peat considers a high level Jennifer. I have some old labs packed away from when my serotonin was at a level that indicated further testing should be done to rule out the presence of a carcinoid tumor of the bowel. It's a long story but needless to say I didn't know about that test result until I picked up my records from my old doctor. I will look through my records and let you know after work today! :D

Jennifer, my serotonin test was actually a random urine 5-HIAA which is a metabolite of serotonin. My level was 14.5 and 12.9 was the high end of normal for the lab reference range. I believe the numbers are different for whole blood serotonin. Just as you have mentioned I was not instructed to avoid certain foods before the test so maybe that contributed to the high reading. I have since learned that a 24 hour urine test is better than the random one. Unfortunately my old doctor dropped the ball at every turn.

Thanks, Blossom for checking. :)

It really is frustrating when doctors drop the ball. Every doctor and specialist I've been to has. It's been kind of a nightmare actually and I'm currently dealing with that now.

Well, I'll keep reading through the results that came up when I did a search for serotonin through the Ray Peat search engine on toxinless. Hopefully I'll come across it and can post it.

Look in the email depository here on the forum if you haven't already. RP didn't give a specific number for serotonin but mentioned that it shouldn't be looked at in isolation. I will try to find the post I'm thinking of as well. He basically alluded to the fact that many doctors don't fully understand serotonin.

This thread needs to be sticky. It's a great reference for people with symptoms to find what's wrong with their hormones
