He probably just posed for the photo op and didn’t even eat the popcorn. This is why it is difficult to navigate through the food chain nowadays. The bag looks pretty and the label looks good, but the quality of the soil and water is crucial to know about too! I don’t buy anything from China anymore, overall they just don’t care about people, their own or otherwise.

“Although the agency does not name the cereal in its outbreak table, it has previously confirmed to Food Safety News that it is investigating complaints about Lucky Charms breakfast cereal. The FDA has not reported where the ill people live, what their ages are, or what “adverse events” have been reported.

As of May 4, the Food and Drug Administration had received 529 reports of what it describes as adverse events. That’s up from 446 a week ago and 231 the previous week.

Since late 2021, the crowd sourcing website iwaspoisoned.com has received 6,400 reports from people complaining of classic food poisoning symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea after eating Lucky Charms cereal. General Mills, the maker of the cereal, has said that is has investigated the situation and there is no apparent link between the reported illnesses and Lucky Charms.

The FDA has begun on-site inspections and sample collection and testing, but it has not reported what location is involved.“

“Across both groups participants were asked to prepare a simple dinner consisting of chicken and a salad. To even the research team's surprise, roughly 25% of all salads prepared showed signs of bacterial contamination—even many salads prepared by subjects who did not wash their chicken.

What does this tell us? Merely avoiding the washing of raw chicken doesn't appear to be enough to keep a kitchen environment sterile. Study authors conclude that their findings emphasize the equal importance of hand-washing and immediate kitchen cleaning and sanitization whenever raw chicken is being handled at all.“

Yuk!

“Among several issues that may have contributed to the salmonella danger, investigators said there had been an intrusion of pigeons into the facility, according to The Jerusalem Post. Strauss Israel acknowledged that the birds did enter a liquid chocolate factory toward the end of March, but said in a statement on their website that the production line itself wasn’t exposed and someone was “immediately” called to remove the pigeons. According to the report, no tests were done that might have linked bird droppings to the salmonella contamination.

The report also alleged the following infractions: making chocolate while the facility was undergoing maintenance, failing to employ a food safety manager after replacing the quality-control team last year and not following milk thawing and storage guidelines that help prevent salmonella contamination.

“We’ve never dealt with an event like this and it’s the biggest recall in Strauss history,” Strauss Group chairperson Ofra Strauss said at a press conference on April 28, the Times of Israel reports. “We will only open the factory when we are sure that everything is safe. I am the chairperson of the company and have been part of all the decisions over the past week. We have all been working hard throughout this week.”

“Poisons, such as estrogen, unsaturated fatty acids, or even radiation, produce different effects at different doses. Low doses typically stimulate cell division, larger doses produce changes of cell type and altered states of differentiation, and finally, adequate doses produce apoptotic cell death. There is a special ideology around apoptosis, which holds that it is "genetically programmed," implying that whenever it occurs in the brain, it was destined to happen sooner or later. But in fact, "growth factors" of various sorts can prevent it. It is increasingly clear that it represents excessive stress and deficient resources. The involvement of the genetic apparatus in differentiation and radical adaptation suggests that the (epigenetic) resources of cells are unlimited.

The changes that are known to be produced by the poisons that we are habitually exposed to are exactly the changes that occur in the aging brain. As I scan over hundreds of studies that define the effects of estrogen, unsaturated fats, excess iron, and lipid peroxidation, my argument seems commonplace, even trivial, except that I know that it clearly relates to therapies for most of the degenerative diseases, and that the great culture-machine is propagating a different view at several points that are essential for my argument.“ -Ray Peat

“In receipt paper known as “thermal paper” because of the way the ink develops, BPA and BPS are added in their free form without being bound to the paper or polymerized. So the chemicals can easily transfer to anything a receipt touches—your hand, the money in your wallet or even the groceries in your shopping bag. Several studies have found that handling receipts, even briefly, leads to significant BPA or BPS absorption into the body.

And this type of “thermal paper” isn’t limited to receipts—it’s also used for movie and concert tickets, boarding passes and deli meat and cheese labels. It’s pretty hard to avoid. And studies have found that the body absorbs more BPA when thermal paper is handled with moist or greasy fingers. Using hand sanitizer and hand creams can make the body absorb BPA much more rapidly.

While virtually every person who has been tested has had BPA and BPS in their bodies, cashiers and other workers who handle thermal paper have more of these chemicals in their body than the rest of us. The fetuses of pregnant workers who handle toxic receipts may be the most vulnerable to exposure.“

BPA has been replaced with even more toxic chemicals but FDA refuse to investigate because it would destroy the industries using those plastics

“Preventively, avoiding foods containing lactic acid, such as yogurt and sauerkraut, would be helpful, since bacterial lactic acid is much more toxic than the type that we form under stress. Avoiding the stress-promoting antithyroid unsaturated oils is extremely important. Their role in diabetes, cancer, and other age-related and degenerative diseases (and I think this includes the estrogen-promoted autoimmune diseases) is well established. Avoiding phytoestrogens and other things that increase estrogen exposure, such as protein deficiency, is important, because estrogen causes increased levels of free fatty acids, increases the tendency to metabolize them at the expense of glucose metabolism, increases the tissue content of unsaturated fatty acids, and inhibits thyroid functions.“-Ray Peat

“Beginning with the industrial production of glutamic acid (sold as MSG, monosodium glutamate), the public has been systematically misinformed about the effects of amino acids in the diet. The FDA has been industry's powerful ally in misleading the public. Despite research that clearly showed that adults assimilate whole proteins more effectively than free amino acids, much of the public has been led to believe that “predigested” hydrolized protein and manufactured free amino acids are more easily assimilated than real proteins, and that they are not toxic. Even if free amino acids could be produced industrially without introducing toxins and allergens, they wouldn't be appropriate for nutritional use.“ -Ray Peat

“There are the more obvious culprits: for example, polystyrene, commonly called Styrofoam, a known carcinogen that’s also an environmental nightmare. Cities such as New York, Washington and San Francisco have banned Styrofoam coffee cups, plates, and to-go boxes. Progressive food establishments have traded it and other hazardous packaging for safer, plant-based alternatives.

But many of those seemingly safe containers may have hazardous chemicals lurking inside.
A study released last year by consumer advocacy groups Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families and Toxic-Free Future found that nearly two-thirds of paper takeout containers from the country’s five largest grocery stores contained elevated levels of fluorine, which meant that they were probably treated with PFAS, a group of industrial chemicals manufactured in the US. The same was true for 11% of bakery and deli papers tested. PFAS has been shown to cause reproductive, developmental, liver, kidney and immunological problems in laboratory animals. It may also be associated with low birth rate and thyroid disruption, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.“

“Besides the impact on the environment, plastics are implicated in a host of potential health problems. At the very least, the American Academy of Pediatrics urges consumers to avoid three plastics in particular: those that bear within the recycling symbol the numbers 3, 6 and 7.

No 3 is typically found in takeout containers, among other plastic products, and is made from polyvinyl chloride. The concern is that it could release phthalates, a common class of chemical used to make plastic malleable. They can act as a hormone disruptor and may contribute to childhood obesity, cardiovascular disease and interfere with male genital development.

No 6 is often present in takeout boxes too, and, when heated, could release styrene, linked to depression and fatigue. At high doses, it could also affect kidney function.

Finally, No 7, which is often found in large water bottles, may contain BPA, the endocrine disruptor that’s associated with cancer, metabolic disorders and infertility.

What to buy instead Avoid the most potentially hazardous plastics and plastic-lined takeout boxes. Plastic products labeled with the terms “greenware” or “bio-based” are less harmful, but aren’t completely safe. Even bioplastics, products derived from plants, come with their own environmental concerns. Some of them will still release harmful greenhouse gases when they end up in a landfill and many simply can’t be recycled.“

“Some consumers might assume fruits and vegetables wrapped in plastic may be cleaner than those that aren’t. But crinkly or clingy packaging might actually introduce chemicals that could infiltrate your food.

Trasande said this type of wrapping probably contains phthalates, one of the most widespread endocrine disruptors. But plastic films are typically unmarked, making it difficult to deduce which types of chemicals are in them.“

Fortunately none of my plastic containers are 3, 6, or 7. It looks like zip lock baggies are bad though…

“Is polyethylene toxic to humans?

Plastics #1 Polyethylene terephathalate (PET or PETE) & #2 HD Polyethylene (HDPE) are not only bad for our environment but can be potentially toxic to humans too, these are also known as single use plastics, and may leach when exposed to UV, heat and over time from natural breakdown.”

“A poultry company in England has halted production at one of its sites after finding Salmonella in chicken. Dozens of products have been recalled.

Cranswick said the facility in Hull will remain closed until an investigation into the possible cause of contamination has been completed.

A routine internal inspection identified the presence of Salmonella in some cooked chicken products.

The products are sold as ingredients for sandwiches and meals in UK retailers and food-to-go outlets.“

“Aldi recalled eight products due to potential Salmonella contamination with one having a use by date of May 19. Tesco issued an alert for 14 chicken products with some having dates up to May 20.

More than 30 products are covered in the Sainsbury’s notice with use by dates ranging from May 3 to May 20 and Co-op has also recalled sandwiches, wraps and ready meals with chicken.

Waitrose’s product recall affected 10 wraps and sandwiches affecting all use by dates up to and including May 14. A dozen products, including salads and deli fillers, are mentioned in the Marks and Spencer recall with use by dates from May 11 to May 17.”
