Help With Blood Work, Confused

So I’ve been peating for 5 years, and my blood work doesn’t look great and I’m confused. I am 35, male, 6’2”, 190 pounds, athletic. I have high blood pressure and see my blood results below. I feel ok generally, but have erectile dysfunction, no libido, and am often tired and feel a bit dull. I have chronic red itchy eye. I get bloated and have stomach inflammation often. 2 years ago I had an attack that resembled a panick attack, but after doing all possible tests the doctors said I looked fine except for high blood pressure and high cholesterol and no reason to believe it was a panic attack either. I was taking natural thyroid at the time and my tsh would not come down from 2.5. I stopped with thyroid 2 years ago.

Diet: milk, cheese, shrimp, liver, ocasional beef and chicken and fish, coconut oil, butter, fresh fruit and cooked potatoes, broccoli, gelatin and Haagen dazs ice cream.

Exercise: 30 min high intensity chin-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, short fast sprints. 3-4 times per week.

Life style: Relaxed, happy, no stress.

I’m just about ready to ditch the whole Ray Peat thing, because I was completely healthy before I started and I have followed his advise perfectly for many years and I just don’t feel in optimal shape.

I’m attaching my blood work to see what you all think I might be doing wrong if anything.

Just curiosity and wanting to have the best possible diet. I was always interested in nutrition. I had no health problems at that time but came across ray peat’s site and it all sounded great.

My previous diets varied. From 9-14 years of age I was vegetarian. Then from 14-19 I added fish, chicken and beef because of anemia. Then from 20-30 I ate everything....pretty healthy diet, home cooked meals, whole grains, veggies, beef or chicken, milk cheese.

What really changed on the ray peat diet was less beef and chicken, cutting whole grains and raw salads, way more dairy and way more saturated fat from coconut and butter, much more sugar and coffee.

Well that’s what I’m thinking about doing now. Going back to unsaturated fats, less sugar, less dairy and adding whole grains and green leafy veggies.

I would appreciate some input on how to get my iron levels lower, my thyroid more active, and my cholesterol lower while maintaining the peat diet. I am generally against taking supplements but I need to take care of things somehow. My body can’t have much stored pufa now and 5 years is a long time for my thyroid to have recovered....so I’m not sure what else to try other than quit peat and go back to a Mediterranean diet.

No, but I will have it checked. I do live in a sunny area, so lots of sun light.

Any other blood tests you recommend I get?

pizzasteve, my advice would be to do away with all dogma and just eat what you were eating when healthy, the caveat being that you avoid concentrated sources of pufa.

I haven’t taken my temperature in a while. I’ll get a thermometer and post back here. A couple years ago it was always a bit low in the morning. My pulse is always around 55.

Thanks Sobieski, that sounds like good advise. I think I’m over doing it with dairy, saturated fat, sugar, and coffee.

Here are some more blood tests results.

I’m getting an endoscopy and colonoscopy tomorrow. My digestion seems to have issues sometimes. Occasional bloating.

Just an update. Got the endoscopy and colonoscopy and abdominal ultrasound. I have a fatty liver and damaged sphincter. Most likely do to the exaggerated sugar and fat intake over the last 5 years.

I’ve lowered my fat intake, stopped eating refined sugar and drinking coffee and milk. I’ve lost belly fat in the last few weeks and generally feel better. No more acid reflux. Stronger erections. More energy and less tired. Blood pressure back down to 115/60. No more bloated feeling and evacuating more often.

I’ll retake all the blood tests in a couple months to see how things look and post back here.

My opinion right now is that people should be careful with their fat and sugar and milk intake. It certainly didn’t work well for me.
