Has anyone got any tried and tested natural remedies for age spots and melasma? ?
Currently sitting with a honey mask on my face, but I'm not expecting miracles, I have very stubborn hyperpigmentation.
I've also tried niacinamide topically with no results.

You’ll like the honey! When I eliminated all my PUFA’s in the first year of “Peating”my liver spots on my arms went away on their own. Maybe try lemon?

“To the authors’ surprise, the ficin and bromelain-based gels actually behaved as a protection factor, increasing the enamel surface’s hardness.”

“The study concluded that bromelain and ficin gels are as effective dental whitening agents as carbamide peroxide-based gels. As well, the use of bromelain and ficin-based tooth whitening gels resulted in less enamel damage than carbamide peroxide. Therefore, the authors conclude that these two enzymes showed promising results, representing significant clinical potential as active ingredients of peroxide-free whitening products.”

What did you think of your honey mask Happycat?
You were right, I loved the honey mask, will keep using it a few times a week.

Hmm Pufa elimination is tricky, I am reducing it as much as possible but it doesn't seem to make a difference..yet. This summer more sun spots have appeared.

I knew you would like it! Maybe my adding in liver early on made a difference too, in getting rid of my liver spots.

Their one ounce face cream is $100+ and the ingredients look good. Have you tried it?

“Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride - Capric and caprylic acids are medium chain fatty acids derived from coconut oil. These specific fractions of coconut oil provide protection from moisture loss through the skin without the pore-clogging potential of whole coconut oil. 100% saturated fatty acids, stable with exposure to heat, light and oxygen.

Cholesterol – Derived from lanolin from sheep’s wool. Around 25% of the skin’s lipid layer that forms the skin barrier is comprised of cholesterol. One of the most reliable biomarkers of skin cell ageing is the amount of cholesterol in the skin cells. Cholesterol levels in the skin decline with ageing and applying cholesterol topically improves skin cell and overall barrier function. Read more

Urea - Synthetic. Part of the natural moisturising factor (NMF) of the skin. Urea in the skin decreases with age leading to dry and wrinkly skin. It has both Keratolytic (exfoliating) and hydrating properties, reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Urea also has preservative, antibacterial and antiviral actions.

Niacinamide - The amide form of Vitamin B3. Niacinamide easily penetrates the stratum corneum (outer layer of the skin). It is well proven to provide significant benefits to the skin, including enhancing barrier function, reducing the visible signs of skin ageing, protecting against UV damage, and relieving inflammatory skin conditions.

Camphor – Derived from the wood of the Camphor tree. Applied topically, camphor has been shown to improve the overall appearance of skin; studies show it treats wounds and UV-induced wrinkles making it a potentially anti-ageing ingredient. Camphor also aids in relieving skin inflammation, irritation and itchiness, and has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is also ‘anti-comedogenic’ so it keeps pores clear and can help to keep acne away.

Naringenin and other citrus flavonoids - Studies show skin benefits with topical use, including prevention of skin ageing⁣, protection against UV damage, with anti-inflammatory⁣, phyto-progestogenic⁣, anti-fibrotic and anti-microbial⁣ actions.

Caffeine - Topical caffeine has been proven to improve the integrity of skin structurally, softening and preventing wrinkles, and even protecting damage from sun exposure. It can also reduce dark circles and puffiness, and helps to reduce water retention in the tissue.

Salicylic Acid – A natural chemical exfoliant that penetrates skin, helping to not only soften it but slough away flaky skin cells. Proved to reduce and prevent acne.

Eugenol – A unique compound derived from clove and sometimes cinnamon. It exhibits excellent antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagenic and antioxidant properties. Unlike many compounds extracted from essential oils, eugenol is not an endocrine disruptor, and may in fact have anti-estrogen effects. Its antimicrobial properties also adds to the preservation of our other ingredients. It’s also what makes this cream smell like Christmas.

CoQ10 – (Ubiquinone) A quinone as per Vitamin K2, applied topically can stimulate and improve the cellular metabolism and function of local skin tissue.

Copper – Applied topically, copper has been shown to encourage the skin to produce more collagen and elastin, improving skin clarity and density and reducing fine lines. Copper reduces the damaging, cell-ageing effects of iron.

Vitamin E – Has protective antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Can improve UV related sun damage and promotes wound healing.

Also:

Coco-Caprylate/Caprate – An emollient made from a mixture of esters of saturated fatty alcohols derived from coconut. Supports the skin’s barrier by helping the skin retain moisture.

Glyceryl Behenate – An ester made up of glycerol and behenic acid (another fatty acid derived from coconut) that helps promote healthy skin by improving hydration and providing a protective barrier against the environment. It also emulsifies (brings together) our ingredients, and helps other key ingredients penetrate the outer layer of the skin.

Glycerin - Helps the skin to retain water and supports the recovery of the skin barrier function.

Glyceryl Caprylate – A mixture of glycerol and caprylate (fatty acid from coconut) that not only stabilises oil-water emulsions, but also has skin benefits of its own, helping to regulate skin moisture and restore natural oils. Has natural anti-fungal properties too.

Caprylhydroxamic Acid – An amino acid derived from coconut, that acts as a safe and effective preservative.

And of course water. Nothing else.

Packaged in an airless pump for best preservation.

Hi- yes I've tried the face moisturiser and really like it. Yes v expensive for sure. I went through a bottle in 2months and I was trying to make it last. I went back to a very regular and very toxic (by standards) moisturiser for a few weeks after that and I really noticed the difference. So, I'm back on it. I've also used the body cream which is really lovely. I don't think I would repurchase this since I can use olive oil and coconut oil on my skin with fairly good effect. I haven't used any other skin products in that range to review.

“I've been searching for the best non-toxic deodorant for a long time and finally found one that works without causing any skin irritation, so I wanted to share it with the forum. It's 151 proof %75 alcohol vodka. Simply get a spray bottle and fill it with the vodka and spray it.”

Usually I get a couple of age spots every other year or so and eventually succumb to have them frozen off. But I’d really like it to happen on its own this time.

I’ve been doing the honey mask too, per Rinse’s recommendation. I also do gua sha fairly regularly. There’s one technique I use of wiggling the stone on the age spot while anchoring the skin. I’ve noticed that a couple stubborn spots are noticeably fading!

I also just ordered some oil with a bit of retinol and other healthy ingredients from someone on the forum who started a skincare line Skincare by Vincent - Skincare done right.. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Gua sha is like a facial massage you do with a stone. I love it! Besides the skin benefits of increased blood and lymph flow, it's just very relaxing.

@Happycat The technique on the spots is shown at about the :45 mark in this video. This is a video for wrinkle lines in the forehead since I couldn't find the one I used for spots - but the idea is the same.

I do this 10-minute routine a few days a week. Really I should do it daily.

Since I like their videos so much, I recommend the Wildling Empress stone. It makes it easier to follow the videos if you're using the same stone. I didn't know when I bought mine, but it's a proprietary desgn. I got a knock off, but they're no longer available on Amazon.

One more thing - I did notice that it's not great to do on the same day as the honey mask - even that tiny bit of honey residue makes the stone not glide as well, even with the bit of squalane I use.

This is great! I am gonna give it a try. I wonder why she is doing a downward motion on the neck in the second video? How long have you been doing this?

Good question. I think I’ve heard them say the downward motion opens the lymph channels and allows fluid to flow from the face more easily. I’d like to one day get a book and understand it better.

I’ve been doing it for about a year but it was stop and go until I got into more of a routine. There are a few nuances to learn but so many videos out there.

One thing I love is that if I do it in the evening, my face still feels more alive in the morning. But I’ve also done it in the morning or before going out.

If you end up trying it feel free to reach out for help getting started!

I ordered this one! I also had forgotten I bought this rose quarts roller a few years back, that I haven’t really given a chance.

Is it the slight injury to the skin, with the “scraping” that causes some regeneration?
Hmm, I think of it more as massage-like stimulation - releasing stagnation. The pressure is pretty light. But possibly a little breaking down with the age spot technique I shared. I wouldn’t describe it as a scraping feeling.

I don’t know about you but I’ve tried to move away from injury-regeneration such as scrubs or acids. Btw - the exfoliating honey mask has helped with that!

Oh yeah me too, nothing overall too rough, but concentrating a little injury on a small area, like needling, creates the skin to go into repair mode and rejuvenate new skin. Glad you like the honey mask as much as I do!
