With so many people having a hard time hunkering down because of Covid risks and others risking it all to have a life, I have found the situation beneficial to my life and has been the ultimate "making the best of a bad situation" for me and my family! Thinking outside the box and making deeper connections with more interesting things to do has been priceless. I would like this thread to be a collection of wonderful discoveries and inspirations that could only come in these troubled times. I also love the idea that we all get a little more insight to the people we are communicating with on this forum, with many being the most intelligent people I enjoy bantering and debating with. PLEASE start your post with "Dear Diary". Positivity please!

Since switching to 100% on-line work and no air travel, I've started having more peachy Peaty days... for 14 months already. Yay! A typical Peaty (work) day: Getting up around 8:30--9am, OJ+coffee_conleche, a 15-20 min of sunbathing after breakfast, getting to computer to work until tired or wanting a snack, snack+hanging out in the yard observing plants and listening to the birds, maybe sunbathing again while reading a cool book. Going back to work some more after grabbing a coffee or maté, lunch of cheese and liver paté, repeat after lunch the morning activities. Go for a stroll in the botanical gardens or neighborhood in the evening, dinner, RPF+research, to bed. Voilà :):

EDIT: Oops, neglected the starting phrase asked... So here it is: P.S. "Dear Diary"

I love it Lejeboca! You're day sounded like a wonderful vacation! Are you from Italy?

Nah, this is all possible in the south-east Virginia, no need to fly as far as Italy. Although Italy was sure nice when flying was not as unpleasant as now.

I don't know whether or not this is still along the theme of positivity, but my current situation reminds me of the main protagonist from "Woman in Dunes" by Kobo Abe, where he first got stuck in a "sand pit"--village in which he had to clear buckets of sand just to stay alive, yet he got used, found pleasures in his current state and, when time came and he was "freed", he didn't leave the sand village.

Dear diary,

I have to admit, I do miss vacations and dinners at nice restaurants with my wife, but the last year has also provided me with many rewards. Done are many of those house projects I never had the time for. Being more creative at home with games and competitions with the family. Just yesterday I did a car repair that saved me $200 by looking up DIY videos and ordering parts online. And today we are having fun watching horse races and betting online, which we used to do at the track or a in a casino once a year or so. Making the best of it! And life is pretty good. ?

What part of Virginia? There is so much differences, both in terms of climate-scenery and politically, in this State that it does not cease to amaze me for many years already. My preference--due to my history and now to all-things Peaty--is south-west Virginia. It is closer to Tennessee too (a positive cross-reference with the Best Places to live in the US). P.S. Dear diary,
Borrowed a new nickname: Not a conspiracy-theorist but a pay-attentionist. Will run with it for a while:
We are all pay-attentionists

Dear Diary, today I made it my usual goal to get outside for some fresh air and vitamin D and saw the best cloud shaped exactly like a shark, jumping out of the water with his mouth open, he even had an eye and some teeth! I ran as fast as I could into the house to get my phone to get a picture, but he was gone when I got back outside! Darn it!

Dear Diary,

With so much bad going on in the world, I am finding it necessary to have any excuse to go right when everyone is going left, and I did mean that politically and spiritually too! I realize I have to keep forgiving those I am disappointed in and those who wrong me. How can I expect forgiveness if I don't give forgiveness. So today I am going to make lots of yummy food and plan to spread cheer tomorrow, celebrating "National Sneak Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day"! I was so good last year about baking cookies and sending them to loved ones. I even made cookies AND a puzzle and sent it to my brother and sister-in-law. I have always known that giving is just as rewarding to the giver as it is to receiver. So I am gonna do better in the future about making a difference.

Dear Diary, who knew that sharing cheesecake could bring such joy! I have made 4 in the last two weeks, and they are always gone in a day! I give a slice to my gardeners, to the mailman, to my 99 year old friend, to a neighbor and anyone I go to visit. Family flew into town yesterday and we all had cheesecake, topped with a strawberry sauce, before going out to dinner. They thought that was fun. I pushed it on them before dinner because I was worried nobody would eat it after dinner. I am getting faster at making them too! I am happy!
