Ginger, Lemongrass And Kaffir Lime Leaves Broth (don't Eat The Leaves)?

I'm in Thailand right now and they often put leaves in soup and don't eat them. It tastes pretty good but I'm wondering if it's something I can do every day in my cooking, just add the leaves to the broth and remove them before eating? Any downside to that?
