Great article. The severity of porn addiction in our modern world is understated. Not only does it contribute to ED, but it leads to hair loss and hypothyroidism. There are several accounts of this in the NoFap reddit for anyone who has time to scour the huge collection of anecdotal evidence. In my experience, pornography and masturbation leads to acute itching of the scalp and cold sensations of the body.

On a related note, is anyone familiar with the works of Wilhelm Reich on the function of the orgasm? He has several things to say about the orgasm of an individual, but not as much to say about pornography. In fact, he quickly dismisses pornography as distasteful.

"A recent 2016 study found that nearly 6 out of 10 of 3962 visitors seeking help on the prominent “MedHelp.org ED Forum”, who mentioned their ages, were younger than 25 (R).

What has so radically changed? Why are almost 60% of young men suddenly experiencing ED?"

The bolded part isn't accurate. You can't conclude that 60% of young men are experiencing ED from the 2016 study, only that 60% of young men seeking help on an ED forum have erectile dysfunction.

Nofap is for low T, low energy males. It was popularized by such men. But still don't watch porn anyway.
Highly sexual, high T men don't have a porn problem because they get sex more easily.

You're right I should have specified that.

I don't agree. Men with low T can get as much sex as they want, it's not dependant on T levels. There are countless men who have low T, high-stress hormones and have to continuously pop pills for sexual performance, but they still get sex all the time because they know the "game". Sleeping around and searching for a new sexual experience is not a sign of high T, it just mirrors a person's mental and hormonal instability. You can learn more on this topic from Mark Gungor.

Agreed, the high-T „alpha“ as it is commonly understood in the pua, reddit etc communities is largely a myth

I’m beginning to believe this as well.

Thanks for posting this! :)

"For example, when a plant/animal is stressed it creates seeds much faster or desperately tries to find a mate to reproduce. It’s understandable for the survival of the species. People that are stressed from a young age go through puberty much sooner to make ready for reproduction to ensure the survival of the species. Most kids in the modern world go through puberty at around 12 or even younger, whereas the normal age for puberty starts at 16-18."

It kind of blew my mind when they discussed this on Danny roddys latest podcast with Peat and Georgi, I never thought about it in this way but it makes so much sense.

For me, inescapable stress and hopelessness are powerful triggers for binging on porn. In my experience, keeping a clean gut and serotonin low helps a ton with resisting those urges + not slipping into bouts of self pity and loathing (though that's certainly easier said than done lol).

I hate how I didn't really have much of a choice as a young teenager whether I wanted to start watching porn or not. It's readily available and our sexualized culture promotes masturbation as a good thing so of course I watched it, a lot.

Sometimes I wonder how different my life could've been if my first encounter with sex/sexuality was with an actual human being, instead of several years of sitting alone in front of a computer watching porn. It's really disturbing how we are shaped by our culture in this way at such an early age.

Aren't they sex trafficked and have half of them undergone surgery? If that's the case you haven't erectile dysfunction.

It's easy to understand from his perspective. Pornography really is distasteful when compared to real sex, at the least the type of integral, life-altering sex William Reich describes. To substitute images and artificial stimulation for the real thing must have been a huge no-no for him, seeing how he viewed sexual interactions and responses as vital to the human experience. One factor which has been overlooked is how much the progressive decline in metabolic rate and function has also affected the sexual response of so many people, to the point where they can't experience what good sex really is, and therefore resort to porn to satisfy their transient residual sexual needs. Ray has mentioned a few times how thyroid supplementation could allow certain women to experience orgasms, whereas before sex had been a somewhat unsatisfying experience for them. He also talked about masturbation to pornography as a type of stimulation focused on the groin, as opposed to the full-body and mind experience of sex (high metabolic rate probably a necessary condition for this to be true). The millennial generation (and now Z?) with their impaired state of health and being the first generations to be exposed to easy-access pornography, has probably negatively altered their sexual response to the opposite sex, although this is probably not as bad in women.

Yeah man, I totally agree. I also wish I was smarter/more informed about these things when I was younger. But I do think that every man comes to a point in his life where he has to make a decision about who he's allowed himself to become and if he's willing to do what is necessary to become the best version of himself. So, in that case, it's better late than never.

Not every job, like travelers, allows for a monogamous loyal person to do sex every moment his desire arises, then the best for them is just to wait for the nocturnal emission?
I for one noticed that if the emission doesn't come in 4, 5 days or depending 7 days, I feel and do better while far if I perform some action
Lots of thanks to you Hans!

Aye, absolutely! With awareness you do have a choice not to repeat the same harmful patterns, and I believe anyone can kick whatever addiction they have by changing their health/environment/inputs and so on.

...But sometimes you just wonder how much control we have over things in life. Past emotional traumas/environments can really get you "stuck" in learned helplessness where you are constantly looking for ways to make the pain go away, and no matter what actions you take to quit drugs, addictions etc, it feels as if you're completely powerless to get out of it.

I like this interview with an active addict talking about his experience relapsing:

I totally agree. Masturbation to pornography seems to have more energy fixation on the mind - on an idea or mental projection - that takes away from the feelings of one's own body. This limits the orgastic potency of the individual. As Reich puts it, "Orgastic potency is the capacity to surrender to the flow of biological energy, free from any inhibitions; the capacity to discharge completely the damned-up sexual excitation through involuntary, pleasurable convulsions of the body. Not a single neurotic is orgastically potent, and the character structures of the overwhelming majority of men and women are neuoritic" (102, Function of the Orgasm).
