Some people who have experimented with eggshell calcium may notice bloodshot eyes or bleeding or sensitive gums. In that context though atypical points to insufficient sodium. Sodium is required for the proper functioning of calcium channels. Two people have e-mailed and asked about this and both times extra salt resolved the problem.

Why would this show up in the eyes? The eyes are sensitive to calcium-sodium fluxes:

This is me right now. I just increased my calcium intake over the past 2 weeks. This morning I woke up with zombie bloodshot eyes. And had a dental appt yesterday where the hygenist was very concerned about my inflamed gums. Ate some extra salt hopefully this will take care of it.
    Gah.

I think if you had powdered calcium carbonate making it to the intestine, that might be irritating for the intestine. Serotonin.
