Dry Lips From Honey/sugar?

I have been suffering with very dry lips lately, I think I have it narrowed down to honey and cane sugar being the culprits. At first I was thinking it was an allergy to honey but it has continued with the use of cane sugar. Has anybody any ideas why this might be? I loved using them in coffee, now it tastes a bit bland without either.

Maybe it accelerates metabolism, and you need to increase some nutrients. Do you have good intake of vitamin A? Eat liver once a week?

Yeah I have liver once a week, I would say I have been doing that for the last 2 or 3 months I would say.

I had horrible chapped lips over the past few 2 weeks. I tried upping my d3, vit a, nothing worked-until I doubled my eggshell calcium intake. The probelm went away literally overnite. I had been taking about 1/8 teaspoon in the morning with vitk2. I took that and then another does of the same amount in the late afternoon. I had chapped lips when i went to bed. I woked up with them healed. So this worked for me -I think it just depends on what is outta wack with your nutritional needs. I had just increased my intake of t3 a couple weeks ago. :D And the winter always stresses me out a bit.

That looks like a high blood sugar- cortisol problem.
Commercial honey has a very high GI index compared to raw honey.
Heat increases GI index. If you are having problem with hot coffee,
you can try cold coffee or ice cream next time. Sucrose in hot
liquid turns to inverted sugar. Honey is a form of inverted sugar.
If cold coffee does not fix the problem, taking coffee after meal
should solve the problem. Protein and fat both lowers total
GI index of the meal

Could it possibly be me struggling with fructose? I've cut out the raw honey & cane sugar but it's still happening. I'm currently drinking grape juice, although I used to eat a lot of grapes without any problems as far as I can remember. Whole fruit doesn't really seem like an option at the moment though due to poor digestion. I've started to hit gelatin quite heavy, this couldn't cause any problems could it?

It could be anything. If you think fructose is a problem just cut out fructose for a week and
see how it feels. Whole fruit has much lower Glycemic index than juice. Eating protein and fat with
sugar slows down the rise of blood sugar. It seems like you have high blood sugar
issue. Hydrolysated gelatin is easier to digest. People with weak digestion often complain about
regular gelatin. Dissolving gelatin in liquid makes it more digestible.
Undigested gelatin feeds bacteria and that causes other problems.

If I was to cut out fructose what would you recommend I eat? Excluding fruit/fruit juice my current diet is coffee with milk & Hydrolysated gelatin, seafood like mussels, shrimps & prawns, liver and that's about it. I would eat potatoes but they enhance the stomach issues I have.

RP mentioned Masa Harina and white rice as safer starch choice.
Adding saturated fat makes it less harmful. I use low amylose
( more sticky) white rice. I do not think fructose is the problem.
Something else probably is causing the problem. High histamine in
seafood can cause gut irritation. Idea is to eat easily digestible food
that does not irritate gut. Eliminating suspecting food for few days
will give a good idea about the source of problem.

Thanks very much for your replies. I have my doubts about it being fructose as well, I think I will keep the grape juice in but go easy on the whole fruits as they do cause problems. As I'm cutting fruit out I was considering making some jello, I know you have mentioned about the gelatin feeding bacteria so do you think this would be a very good idea at this stage? I would boil the water first and mix the gelatin but I have read elsewhere it stated it would be best to avoid when digestion is poor.

I tried in many ways to make fruits the major part of my diet.
I finally gave up. It is so hard to find good quality well ripened fruits.
I only eat certain fruits in season.
Currently most of my diet is based on
dairy (farmers cheese, regular milk and
reduced milk). If you check cronometer, you will be able to get
most of your nutrients from dairy, coffee, liver.
Lactose, Honey and sucrose are the main source of carbohydrate for me.
I eat white rice once a day. I tried to get gelatin in many different ways.
Jello is the least irritating of all. But i get mixed reaction from gelatin.
It improves sleep and over all health but it causes some form of gut irritation.
I occasionally eat it, not daily. I also use fruit-vegetable broth
( cucumber, squash, potato and fruits like guava ,apple) for extra nutrient.

Could a shellfish allergy be causing it? It's something I added into my diet 2 or 3 weeks ago. Mainly mussels and prawns, it's got me thinking if they could be the problem.

Shellfish are known for high histamine content. But fresh shellfish has very little
histamine. Dry lips can be a result of histamine intolerance. But shellfish allergy usually happens
quickly. You can remove shell fish for few days and see if this solves the problem
You can also try low dose anti-histamines like Benadryl or cyproheptadine.
But most anti-histamine causes dry mouth. Another option is to eat a lot
of sugar/carb with shellfish. RP mentioned that high blood sugar level lowers
allergic response to irritants.

Thanks Mittir for your replies. One other thing I was thinking it could be is the fruit juice, mainly grape juice. I didn't do particularly well on OJ so I barely ever drank any, since I got the grape juice I have been drinking a lot of it. Does it have high acid levels? From what I have picked up it doesn't but could it possibly irritate my stomach and therefore lead to dry skin? My hands are very dry now as well so something is giving me trouble that I'm consuming.

Commercial grapes have tons of pesticides and sulfur dioxide and organic
grapes have no pesticides but lot more sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide is a known
irritant and allergen. Soaking in old water removes sulfur dioxide.
I have been drinking grapes juice recently and i suspect some of the sulfur
is still there. But much less than before. I have really given up on
fruits. You can probably lower toxins if you peel off the skin,
I do that with large grapes.

Mittir,

I have very dry skin on my face and neck. I probably have histamine issues. I have had suspicions about gelatin powder (Great Lakes). It sounds like you don't think it's worth the effort to keep it in the diet regularly. Do you eat meats, and do you attribute high histamine with them? Do you supplement thyroid or pregnenolone?

Thanks for your response.

Why don't you drink orange juice bought from the store? Some brands like Simply don't have enzymes added.

This has to do with minerals I believe. I've had it happen a few times. I've had it happen the most after taking a magnesium bath, I'll literally wake up the next day and my lips are so dry And this lasts at least a week. I've also had it happen with dosing calcium, I took 500mg a day and a couple Days in same thing happened. It went away by itself but it's annoying. I didn't / don't know how to reverse it but feel the answer lies in balancing out the minerals
