I do not know the mechanism behind heart attacks happening because of a caffeine+alcohol combination. I would assume the antiplatelet effect would stop it from happening.

I don't think caffeine increases heart attack risk. In fact, virtually every study published on caffeine/coffee shows a protective effect in the range of 2-5 cups a day. And even though coffee has other nutrients in it, it's metabolic effects are undoubtedly due to caffeine.

The alcohol is more problematic, however in moderation, even alcohol can be beneficial. Liquor is even better than wine. Bourbon has a higher antioxidant value than red wine, and isn't estrogenic like beers. Of course it's the "dose that makes it." About 4-6 oz daily is the optimal range.
