Do I need to add gelatin to my diet if most of my protein comes from milk?

Isnt gelatin used for supplementing amino acids that are not found in muscle meat, or are in the wrong ratios?

I just dont want to waste money on gelatin if I am allready getting the right ratios of amino acids in milk.
But I am not sure.
Thank you.

The amino acid ratio you are talking about is worse in milk than in muscle meat.
Tryptophan increases serotonin production and is anti-thyroid.
Milk has more trytophan per grams of protein than muscle meat.
But the good ratio of calcium to phosphorus and high calcium content
make milk much safer than meat. Muscle meat is also very high in phosphorus.
Cysteine and methionine are also anti thyroid. Gelatin has many other health benefits besides
making muscle meat safer. You can add gelatin and see how it makes you feel.
It is a very powerful supplement if digestion is not a problem.

I'm not sure it's a necessity for everyone, but when I added gelatin - collagen from Great Lakes - within days I felt relief from an inflammatory condition I had. It also helped with my acid reflux, although home made broth had the most impact on my digestion. Broth is pretty cheap to make if you want to go down that path.

Why do you say that about digestion and gelatin?
Mine isn't great and I take gelatin (3-5 tbs) daily in my coffees...............wondering if I shouldn't?
But if I'm understanding your post correctly, you're saying it's very important for gelatin to be taken with milk..........and milk is really my only option for the getting 70-100 grams of protein in every day.
I've heard Peat mention the muscle meat/gelatin combo before but not Milk and gelatin; does he ever mention that specifically?
Thanks!

Would you mind elaborating on what your inflammatory condition was?
And how much did you take?

Gelatin feeds bacteria if not digested properly and i have seen many people complaining
digestion problem with gelatin. Most people do well on hydrolyzed gelatin.
My understanding is that with muscle meat gelatin is a must and
with milk the requirement is individual. If someone has health issues
,especially thyroid problem, then gelatin is almost a must.
Calcium in milk directs tryptophan to niacin path .
Not sure how much of it goes in either direction.
RP recommends limiting protein intake to 80-100 grams for
hypothyroid people to lower anti-thyroid amino
acids like tryptophan,cystein and methionine.
Healthy person can tolerate lot more protein.
After reading RP's article on gelatine i am convinced it is
a super food kind of substance, anti aging, anti wrinkle,
glutathione boosting, pro-thyroid ,anti-diabetic etc.

Ok, thanks.
Do you happen to know if the collagen hydrolyslate has the same benefits as regular gelatin?

Yes, same benefits.Hydrolyzed gelatine is partially digested, that is why easy to digest.
