What is the mechanism behind the decrease conversion of T4 -> T3 in the liver on a low carb diet? Does increase cortisol or adrenaline play a role?

A lot of things can effect T4 to T3 conversion.

Probably numerous things lower insulin levels, higher cortisol levels, substrate shift from carb to more fat/protein driven metabolism effecting cortisol/insulin/etc.
