First of all, I just want to start by saying Dave Asprey is a joke. I cant stand him and I love how he promotes these high fat/low carb diets, meanwhile he himself is on medication and constantly looks tired and has aged a lot. RP looks more healthy than him, and RP is 79 haha.

okay but main point of this topic is Modafinil/Provigil. People like Asprey are taking it to increase concentration. Now my big issue right now is fatigue and brain fog, which I think is mostly attributed from poor sleep.

My questions are:

1. How does Modafinil/Provigil work? Does it raise metabolism?
2. What is RPs take on them?
3. People are taking it and not sleeping properly and still functioning. For example, dumb ppl like Asprey survives off 5 hours sleep. Others take it with 3 hours sleep and still function. People are saying that it doesnt have any side effects really, and seems safe. BUT my question is, wouldnt the lack of sleep put A LOT of stress on the body? Increased cortisol etc etc.

ALSO, check out this video with Dave Asprey and the drug.

Have you looked at its Wikipedia page?

It increases histamine. It might squash GABA, So leading to enhanced glutamatergic transmission.

It may boost dopamine (ever so slightly), but it's never been a drug of abuse, and it never will be. Amphetamines are in a different league. As are DRIs like amineptine.

It doesn't sound very Peaty to me.

I've taken it, and yes, it screwed my sleep up completely. I mean, look what it's prescribed for. Even if you take it first thing in the morning (5am), it will still be lingering in your system, come bed time. I never felt tired at all on the drug.

It had a minor benefit on anxiety as a positive effect (for me). It made me extremely robotic and focused. Forget trying to chat girls up when you are on this drug. You will lose your wit completely. I suppose it might have use if you are studying and need to hardcore focus, and have no need for socialising. But then, why not just go for caffeine, instead? Caffeine works just as well for me, without the side effects of modafinil.

Dave Asprey has taken this for 8 years straight, which is ridiculous

You say it will still be in your system, but I was hoping if i took 1/2 or 1/4 the dose it wont be as bad? I wanted to try it here and there, not for long term use. I definitely dont wanna take it if it will screw my sleep up

My experience which is similar to other people's reports on nootropic forums, is that it makes you very robotic, uncreative and generally antisocial. Most people don't notice the same effect each time they take it. Sometimes it would make me very productive, while other times it would make me sleepy right after taking it. I don't think you could really take it everyday and function well on a lack of sleep. It doesn't do anything to reduce the negative health effects of staying awake, or missing sleep, it just allows you to stay awake, when it works.

Common side effects are headache, and it reduces appetite which may have the effect of slowing metabolism and increasing stress hormones. The real mechanism of action isn't really understood so I think it probably isn't too wise to take it. After some experimentation before I found Peat I stopped taking it, and don't plan to take it again.

I think that t3 and caffeine work better for staying awake and the aspirin/niacinimide/caffeine stack, or simply more t3 works better than modafinil for focus and mental energy. Modafinil just makes you feel weird, not like yourself, and I think its only really good for repetitive tasks that don't require a lot of thought or creativity.

Here are the 5 nootropics you need: aspirin, thyroid, pregnenolone, coffee, cyproheptadine. And they will cost you no more than a couple dollars a day. This bulletproof community creates the illusion that you need to buy fancy products and supplements to achieve a thriving state of health. The more supplements you take, the more respect you get. It's not uncommon for these guys to take 20-30 of these "nootropics" a day. Health is regarded as some rare state reserved only for the wealthy. We live in such a messed up world. I guess if you don't have your health, then you don't have anything. So people are easily taken advantage of in this desperate state. I was one of them. I bought so much crap on the internet.

I tried Nuvigil and Provigil. I couldn't handle either. Both gave me high anxiety.

This. Try food, minerals, vitamins, before drugs.
