Is anyone here familiar with the CAC scan? There are a lot of people who have managed to reduce their calcification score following a low carb diet. Presumably adopting this strategy leads to higher than normal LDL levels. I have heard that what causes arterial damage and subsequent calcification is not high LDL levels per se, but inflammation due to small (oxidized?) LDL particles. What is exactly the cause of small LDL particles besides PUFA?

I'm pretty sure that infections play a significant role in cardiovascular diseases.

LDL is part of the innate immune system.

Bacteria are found in plaques.
