I'm from Canada, and I looked at the ingredients in a can of coke the other day and noticed they don't use High Fructose Corn Syrup here.

Coca Cola Ingredients Canada:
Water, sucrose, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, caffeine.

Coca Cola Ingredients USA:
Water, high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, caffeine.

Though I suspect the 'sucrose' in the Coke here is made from GMO beet sugar, at least it doesn't have HFCS I thought. My question is - what about the phosphoric acid? I know Ray has written on the detrimental effects of phosphorus, but I don't want to assume P.A. has the same effects.

"Antoine Frostburg" wrote on his website "Phosphoric acid is deliberately added to soft drinks to give them a sharper flavor. It also slows the growth of molds and bacteria"
General Chemistry Online: FAQ: Chemistry of everyday life: Why is phosphoric acid in soda pop?

So fair enough, I wonder if it has any beneficial effect on eliminating gut flora.
Does anybody know any negative side effects of consuming phosphoric acid?
