I'm trying to implement Peat's ideas in my diet, but I wonder for what charcoal and baking soda are used. Can somewhat explain that for me?

Charcoal absorbs endotoxin and gases that cause bloat. Baking soda increases the amount of CO2 thereby lowering lactic acid. It also serves as a source of sodium without the chlorine found in common salt. Baking soda also acts as an antacid because of its basic nature.

Hum, I believe the CO2 from baking soda is much less compared to say bag breathing, and that it's use is more for its sodium content (and mouthwash as a replacement for toothpaste, which should be avoided due to fluoride).
