Just wanted to start a general thread on Public Figures aging + diet/lifestyle.

Henry Rollins - 56

Average daily diet from a year ago:
  1. Met-Rx Bar (1 bar) 410 kcal, 30g protein, 47g carbs, 28g sugars

  1. Fruit Salad (per 1cup) 124 kcal, 1.3g protein, 32g carbs, sugars varies depending on fruits included and any dressing, such as cream, yogurt, etc. OR Yogurt (greek, per 150g) 110kcal, 12g protein, 15g carbs, 12g sugars

  2. Tuna (per 1 can; drained) 50kcal, 12g protein, 0g carbs, 0g sugars & Orange Juice (per 8fl.oz) 110 kcal, 2g protein, 26g carbs, 23g sugars

  3. Met-Rx Bar (1 bar) 410 kcal, 30g protein, 47g carbs, 28g sugars OR Protein Shake (per 45g) 170 kcal, 39g protein, 2g carbs, 0g sugars

  4. Soup (he didn't specify what kind of soup; steak & potato soup will obviously differ greatly from tomato soup, for example) & Sandwich (he also didn't specify the type of sandwich; huge variances there) OR Blue Corn Tortilla Chips(per 14 chips) 140 kcal, 2g protein, 19g carbs, 0g sugars
Observations:

Rollins appears to have a bit of fat around his abdomen and breasts (high cortisol + inflammation?)

Thinning hair (completely grey)

Sagging Skin around face

Grey thinning hair? Really? How is this so? At 56? Is that what happens?

He looks pretty great for his age. The issue with celebrities is how do you know what their doc give them, are they on TRT ? etc..

Cosmetic surgery can start as early as the teenage years for celebrities and most all of them have dyed, tweaked, nipped, or tucked something. And like another poster said, who knows what their physicians prescribe. Some celebrities are open about NOT have any work done. George Clooney is one, but I imagine even he is doing something ...

These discussions are rarely productive because there's so much else going on with each and every individual. I have friends who eat poorly, smoke, drink, but live interesting, low-stress lives who remain in what I would perceive relatively good health in their late 20's. There's something to be said for mental state outside of the influences of diet- I think we all agree. That doesn't mean nutrition isn't important. Not everyone who smokes cigarettes or gets exposed to radiation gets cancer, but that's not proof it's harmless. We ought to re-discover our own internal compass and follow that.

That Met-Rx bar is horrifying.

Anthony Bourdain - 61

Claims to have lost 35lbs due to practicing Jiu-Jitsu, but an interesting test case as he's very lean and clearly binges on occasion for his shows.

A former smoker and a drinker, although he claims to stay away from booze when he's not filming. Obviously a naturally thin guy.

Years ago he claimed to be on blood pressure meds to allow him to continue filming his shows without dietary restrictions.

Keeping body fat low, and getting plenty of sun appear to be a recipe for success regardless of general diet (within reason).
