Does anyone know of any decent Refined coconut oil brands in the UK or atleast available to ship from somewhere (don't mind the extra cost).

Only ones I've found so far are:
- BetterBody naturally refined coconut oil.
- Naissance Refined coconut oil organic.
And that's it. Any experiences with these or if their okay?

Do you think it's an issue to have a plastic container? As long as it's BPA free? Any info on that? Maybe okay transferig contents into a glass jar?

Cheers all!

KTC? Available in normal supermarkets, Tesco, Sainsbury's etc for about £2-3

I did notice that one but isn't the refined version non organic? Do you think it matters?
Or which version are you referring to as there are 4 different KTC version coconut oils available.

Thanks!!!

I'm not too worried about that. I live in London so I'm breathing in poisonous air all day. I don't stress about these things too much, it will drive you insane. :meh:

I didn't realise there was more than one KTC coconut oil. There is only ever one when I see them in the supermarket. It has a blue label and says 100 percent pure coconut oil.

I looked this up before and I saw someone that emailed KTC. They said their coconut oil was technically organic but it costs huge amount of money to be credited as organic to allow it to put it on their products so they didn't. Not sure if that is true, perhaps email KTC yourself to verify the story but I don't worry about it.

Ktc coconut oil! Very cheap. I have an erection every time i see one. I don't know why. The blueness of the jar, her odor, her ketones mmmh and oh ! her lauric acid... Oh wait... Her medium chain fatty acids too... Ok, i'm gonna take some kleenex while reading "coconut oil" article. It's like pornhub to me

Guys!!! I find I am allergic to normal unrefined coconut oil.. would a refined coconut oil without the fibres and proteins be no risk of an allergy???

Do you have a take on coconut oil being less allergenic after its been refined?

They all seem to be acceptable except for the cheap brands you find in Asian supermarkets.

I once bought some in a plastic bottle and it tasted like solvents (and probably plasticizers thrown-in). I filed this oil in the non-food category and used it for non-food purposes. It helped lubricate the gasket for my new windshield when I replaced the cracked one.

Anything pressed should be okay. They sometimes use solvents to extract the rest, but this cannot be labeled as "virgin" and should not be eaten.

The non-refined coconut oil tastes more like coconuts, and Trader Joe's has the best one.

Do you think Refined would be less allergenic?

Refined would have less proteins, and only proteins are truly allergenic. Most molecules are too small to create specific antibodies against.

Refined would be less allergenic, but coconut allergy is extremely rare.

Great! Thanks for this Travis! World of help!
Would you say it's safe to put coconut oil on all over the body and just leave it soak into the skin for a few days without showering/bathing at all to properly moisturise the skin? (As my skin is so dry ATM I may go up to 7 days without washing properly (apart from the crucial areas) to keep my natural oils going.. would this be okay? No detrimental effects or the coconut oil absorbing into the skin. Blood stream etc??

Theoretically, refining should remove everything except the oil, and the pure oil itself is very unlikely to be allergenic. But I guess there could be some small trace of protein remaining - depends how sensitive your allergy is. I'd expect it to probably be OK, but only trial would tell for sure. If your reactions have been severe/dangerous, test in a safe place (eg near the doctor).

There have been studies showing that some oil can be absorbed into the body and blood stream through the skin. I'm not aware of there being any harm in that - from that point of view, coconut oil is probably as good any other and better than most.
But some of us find pure coconut oil a bit drying for the skin, so I'm not sure that you would get the desired effects for dry skin.
Personally, I've found a mix of coconut oil, cocoa butter and possibly just a tiny bit of beeswax much more effective for skin moisturising. (The beeswax makes it stick longer, but also makes it harder to wash out of clothes.)
Some people have found tallow-based moisturisers good.
