I can't get necks with the thyroid gland in them. I can only get necks without the glands.

Are you all making soup using neck-with-gland or neck-without-gland?

Especially hoping Mittir might chime in...

Thanks!

I make chicken neck stock regularly.
I can't tell if all or some or none have the gland, other than that I think I get a mild positive effect from drinking it.
I cook many at once - eg 30-40 necks. So in a particular batch, I'd be averaging over many.
I buy what I can find. Lately they have been mostly organic, but if I can't get organic I get the regular commercial ones from cheap butcher.
I have some every day, but only a little.

Thanks, Tara! I guess it's worth a try with whatever I can get. I wonder if the gland removal is not perfect and leaves a little in there.

Have you checked the farmers markets?

Oops, no, and I was given some resources. Brain-fog-forgot.

I did check with one local farm and one local meat shop. But will call around some more.

Thanks for reminding me, Blossom! Are you able to get the gland necks locally?

Yes! At a local farmers market the poultry person sells the necks in bulk for making stock. They don't bother to remove the thyroid so it's a bonus for me.

I haven't been to a farmer's market for years, but I'm going to go there next weekend pronto!
