As a former and still intermittent coffee and tea drinker, I prefer life without caffeine but maybe it's because I have the slow caffeine metabolizer polymorphism. At the very least it doesn't seem to have favorable effects on sex hormones.

So what's the truth about caffeine? Does it increase androgen receptors? Does it increase testosterone does it lower free testosterone? Increase estrogen? Improve liver function? Decrease liver function? So many conflicting things about caffeine...

Saw this website How Caffeine Affects Your Hormones | Dr. Lauren Deville, Naturopathic Doctor - Tucson, AZ apparently caffeine raises estrogen and increases shbg..
interesting.

Could be from hypoglycemia.

For whatever reason, I never get hypoglycemia from caffeine. Maybe from almost a decade of PUFA restriction. If I take too much, I get muscle spasms, rather than hypoglycemia. The mechanism of that is probably directly overstimulated nerves, rather than insufficient nutrients.

I guess it's because caffeine inhibits glycolysis, but not everyone responds to caffeine this way.

When I was an adolescent, if I didn't eat enough calories with caffeine, the veins on my hands would become constricted and I'd become shaky.

I haven't experienced that with caffeine in the past few years, possibly because I eat often. The only time I experience it is when I eat carrot salad.
