Nothing ground breaking in this new study but interesting evidence of caffeine's abilty to block one type of inflammation.

The More Coffee You Drink, The Longer You'll Live

Davis and his colleagues have shown a correlation between caffeine consumption and longevity.

They found an inflammatory mechanism present in certain older adults, but not in others. When it was highly activated, people had high blood pressure, and stiff arteries. Lab experiments confirmed caffeine blocks this inflammatory process, meaning the drug has a protective effect against advanced aging in older adults.

Thanks Mito for posting this.
Here is another one I found which sheds more light on the topic:

From that link: "Metabolites, or breakdown products, of nucleic acids — the molecules that serve as building blocks for our genes — circulating in the blood can trigger this inflammatory process, the study found. The study also provides evidence that caffeine and its own metabolites may counter the action of these circulating nucleic-acid metabolites, possibly explaining why coffee drinkers tend to live longer than abstainers."
