If you're in the mood for some intriguing history of the American Medical Association then read Josephson's book : "Your Life is Their Toy". It can be read on google books archive. If one did not know the year it was written one could easily think it is current day. It should give all who strive towards good health another reason to continue doing so and not allow anyone, including medical professionals, to hinder in the name of knowing what's best for you.

I've read half of it and it's astounding to learn the reason junior doctors are paid slave wages is because their own association, the AMA, has pressured politicians to enact laws for it.
The section on government run health insurance is quite an eye opener when viewed with our current health insurance issues facing our nation. This subject is obviously not new and at the time of the books' writing the push for government health insurance was not from patients who could not afford it but from the medical establishment itself. Without control over people's choices there is no control over who gets the monetary benefit.
