What blood tests should someone get who is suspected of being a Type 1 diabetic, hypoglycemic, or Type 1 diabetic?

A family member lost about 20kg in a month and while on holiday had a blood sugar count of 495. Was quickly diagnosed by local doctors as being type 1 diabetic and started on insulin.

When he got back to the states he saw a specialist who has said he thinks it is possible that he might not have type 1 diabetes and he may have type 2 or hypoglycemia. Also that the doctors abroad where poor in their administration of insulin.

I don't know what tests the doctor is going to order for him but I am going to recommend a few others for him but I'm not too sure which ones he should get. Here is what I can think of;

Prolactin
Estrogen
Cortisol
Testosterone
DHT
Iron
Copper
Magnesium
Calcium
Vitamin D
TSH, T3, T4, Reverse T3

Also if anyone can tell me what is a good service on the East coast in the states for these tests. Many thanks.

A glutamic acid decarboxylase autoantibody test would be fairly specific for indicating a type of metabolic dysfunction that can be described as type 1 diabetes.

Thanks. Never heard of that one.

Rather late but still: A glucose tolerance test would be useful. There is a 5hr and a 3hr version. But this won't work for someone with seriousblood sugar regulation issues. They would faint during the test if their blood sugar gets so low.
