There is no effect. Any effect is largely mental, completely in your head. Take some zinc for a few days if you want. You'll live.

I don't know how you go about offering advice that he didnt ask for but on that note...

@CDT I am not sure why you are doing nofap, whether its to get laid, or some spiritual nonsense, or for "self-improvement". Learn from someone who is gone on much longer streaks then you, its mental. The temporary minor positive effects is caused by built up sexual tension which is not good in the long run. Also your own confidence is improved because you no longer do the thing your ashamed about. It won't make you a better man, or better at talking with girls, or give you the energy to be successful or whatever ***t people are still doing this thing for.

The moment I broke my longest streak is the moment I realized what a literal pile of ***t it was. I was literally a chick magnet as soon as I broke my streak, and a people magnet in general. Do you know why? Because I stopped shaming myself for caving in to urges, this lifted a great weight off my shoulder, and not being ashamed of your sexual urges rubs off on women around you. Being a free man not bound by the moralistic vomit that is the nofap mentality improved my health. Never did it again after that.
Do you actually think ejaculating to much can't have any negative effects? Anything in excess is going to do bad to the body .. when I ejaculate to much I get bad hard flaccid and my flaccid penis will shrink up real bad and no it's not all In my head, so why would ejaculating do this if it isn't bad? Why does my head start to itch after ejaculating it will itch for about 3 days and then stop what would cause this ? I do much better not ejaculating I've tested this many times without fail.

How could an ejaculation, into which the entire hormonal activity in your body culminates, have only mental effects? When you hit the refractory period after ejaculation, is that 'largely mental'? Are you completely ignorant of hypothalamus, HPx axises and contrarian endocrinology? Do you believe the negative effects of weed are largely in your head too? Orgasm and weed achieve pretty much the same thing: flood of 2-AG in the hypothalamus, leading to desentitization of CB-1 receptors, which result in lessened hypothalamic sensitivity to both dopamine and testosterone. And when HPP axis is no longer inhibited by dopamine, prolactin will be chronically elevated, which in turn inhibits HPG axis and leads to chronically low test. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to physiological consequences of ejaculation.

Secondly, how can you make such universal generalizations, or even a rationally justifiable empirical conclusion in the miniscule context of your own life, based on a single experiment? Let me join you in this subjective **** measuring contest: I have been tracking my wellbeing and productivity in conjuction with masturbating frequency since 2011. I have had years where I have masturbated less than 20 times, and years where I have masturbated over 250 times, with the average being at ~70 times a year. My subjective sense of wellbeing and productivity is DIRECTLY inversely correlated with my masturbation frequency, as is the quantity of my artistic output and the quantity of the books I voluntarily read. It's a statistically undeniable correlation, even though it doesn't always feel like that in day-to-day life.

Let me ask you: what kind of live do you live? The reason I think some don't perceive any positive changes from reducing their frequency of masturbation is that they are not doing anything intellectually or physically challenging with their lives. They merely live, comfortable in mediocrity. You can masturbate 3x a day and study, have a job and family. Nothing wrong with that, yet, what if you want your life to be more than that? Try masturbating daily while composing music, writing books, performing high level problem solving, pushing the physical boundaries of your body, delivering speeches to audiences all over the world, or something to that extent. The difference between ejaculating and abstinence in these kind of activities is tremendous. You will ABSOLUTELY be holding yourself back from achieving your full potential by indulging into pointless ejaculation. There has been no a man of remarkable achievement who has ever talked about the virtue of ejaculating in abundance. There have been plenty who have talked about its detrimentality..

An alternative theory, which you are sure to hoot at, is that only people with souls experience benefits from abstinence. You might be a robot. Beep boop!

@Jing Pretty much everything that is good for you is a mild euphoriant... (aspirin, T3, progesterone, sugar, coffee, CO2, penicillin etc....)

and self-denial which sustains us." - Ray Peat

"if you're far from the euphoric condition it means you're basically degenerating structurally" - Ray Peat

on masturbation: “150 years ago there was a widespread cult that claimed it was harmful (5 Insane Ways Fear of Masturbation Shaped the Modern World | Cracked.com); I assume there are cultural pockets where the attitude survives. Ejaculation isn't mild.. I'm not just talking about masterbation I'm talking about ejaculating regardless if having sex or not .. and everything you listed you think in excess it would still be good for you?

Yes I concur with the numbness that appeared the longer my streaks that did not go away. This BS about flatlining means nothing when you are "flatlining" for over 3 months. Partly because I unconsciously ate less healthfully and less calories as a mean to control urges. Dropping cals kills the sex drive quickly. My theory is that most men end up doing something to lower androgens either with food, or sleep, etc. It certainly was the case for me.

Found the reason why nofap didn't do anything for you.

When I was healthy and practiced nofap, the benefits were profound. It made me very strongly pursue members of the opposite gender, boundless energy, restful sleep every night etc. They are just as beneficial, if not more so, when not healthy also. However, just doing nofap for the sake of nofap, as you found out, of course that's not going to be helpful. It's just one tool in the toolbox of health, and eating well and resting well etc is also mandatory.

@TheSir well said man.

Nofap deniers can deny all they want, but in the long run they're hurting themselves and leaving free health gains on the table, because they don't want to give up masturbation. I get it, it's a hard addiction to break, I was addicted for 25+ years myself. But I really don't miss it now, because it never did my health any favors.

@Jing "ejaculation isn't mild"- okay dude. No point in arguing with you since you're so far removed from reality. Almost all of those things I listed are very safe and beneficial and large amounts (aspirin can be used in dosages 40 times a normal dose, CO2 is safe at at least 100 times atmospheric levels, but penicillin should be used in smaller amounts). Im not telling anyone what to do just balancing out the odd turn (keep things oriented towards reality) these threads always take, not interested in adding anything more.

So who are more likely to be in euphoric condition: those who expulse semen liberally, or those who are more conservative towards their sexuality? Has sexual revolution made the West more euphoric? More sane? More healthy? The ultimate function of ascetic "self-denial" is to make bliss a lasting state of being, a state which many call being close to God, because that's how pure and right it feels. THIS is pretty much the euphoric condition Ray is hinting at. How many habitual masturbators are in such condition?

Sugar, CO2, T3 and other substances you list aren't good for you because they are euphoriants. They simply are good for you, and that is why they make you feel well. As such, they are incomparable to masturbation, the aim of which is to only make you feel good, not to do you good.

T3 can be dangerous in excess any of the things you listed can it is you who is far from reality. You just obviously haven't been a significant period without ejaculating..

If you are unhealthy, everything will be hard on the body. Its just that simple, I am sure in your mind you can't stand the idea of ejaculation not being the big bad wolf.

This is in your head, you have created a monster that does not exist. Yes there is a refractory period after ejaculation, there are of course hormonal effects afterward, but this is not significant. It will be significant if you have poor health, it will make you feel worse if you already have hormonal imbalances. There are young men ejaculating much more then the average say once a day. And they live normal lives and are successful. They dont believe in boogeymans holding them down.

You say pointless ejaculation, but the point is for release of sexual urges. It has nothing to do with "virtue", wtf is this? Tell me how difficult do you think it is to do well in school, even say work in an office when all you can think about is ramming the hot chicks in your class? How strong were your sexual urges ever? Mine are insane and they still are. The only way I ever managed to abstain for months is by unconsciously starving myself which I did not notice until after I broke the streak.

The only people that can do nofap long term are those who do not have a strong sex drive or somehow lower their own sex drive through several means.

Are you speaking to audiences across the world? Mathematician? Composer? Writing books? Do you think these people don't "ejaculate"(have sex)? What about professional sports, they push their bodies to the limit surely. Soccer players, you think they dont have massive amounts of sex? What world do you live in? Humans are sexual creatures, nothing has changed.

Ejaculating too much is as bad as eating too much, sleeping too much, drinking too much. You have a health problem, deal with the health problem and like magic you'll realize the boogeyman was never there.

Ejaculation isn't mild.. I'm not just talking about masterbation I'm talking about ejaculating regardless if having sex or not .. and everything you listed you think in excess it would still be good for you?

Sometimes I have to check if I'm on the right forum. So much BSing and anti-sex nonsense. If ejaculation is hard on you, it is a health problem. Its not supposed to be hard on the body, clearly you are running on empty and/or have hormonal issues. In that case, you should stop and figure that out because that's not a problem that should be lingering.

Found the reason why nofap didn't do anything for you.

When I was healthy and practiced nofap, the benefits were profound. It made me very strongly pursue members of the opposite gender, boundless energy, restful sleep every night etc. They are just as beneficial, if not more so, when not healthy also. I did not do nofap for the sake of nofap, there were benefits, but largely because of the loss of shame with nofap. Stopped being ashamed, benefits basically stopped.

I was not able to do nofap for any serious length of time unless I lowered my sex drive somehow, that was the initial point.

T3 can be dangerous in excess any of the things you listed can it is you who is far from reality. You just obviously haven't been a significant period without ejaculating..

I have for months, and I can tell you right now it is BS and I achieved much more when I stop riding the nofap wagon and started riding the noexcusesgetshitdone wagon. Enough of the hocus pocus.

You are quoting him in the wrong context. He said that in reference to calorie restriction and the popular belief that fasting and maintaining a slow metabolism is the key to longevity.

@Jing Pretty much everything that is good for you is a mild euphoriant... (aspirin, T3, progesterone, sugar, coffee, CO2, penicillin etc....)

"if you're far from the euphoric condition it means you're basically degenerating structurally" - Ray Peat

He is talking about euphoria as a result of good nourishment, he is not saying that anything that makes you feel good is good for you.

on masturbation: “150 years ago there was a widespread cult that claimed it was harmful (5 Insane Ways Fear of Masturbation Shaped the Modern World | Cracked.com); I assume there are cultural pockets where the attitude survives. There have been anthropologists who claimed that it could cause the downfall of civilization, and that preventing it makes better soldiers.” - Ray Peat

Ok I guess this is pretty explicit, but I feel like sex and masturbation are completely different. I would guess pretty strongly that soldiers masturbate, probably more than average, but they cannot have sex because romance will deter them from duty. Good sex is stimulating, solo masturbation is depleting. I think if you feel the need to masturbate to relieve stress you are probably in some sort of learned helplessness.

Just like when your unhealthy smoking, drugs, polyunsaturated fats, effect you more? A healthy person can also smoke take drugs without much consequences doesn't mean it's good for them...

There are young men ejaculating much more then the average say once a day.
If you ejaculate more than once a day even once a day you have an addiction, people think they have a high sex drive when in reality they have an addiction, that is why no fap can lower your sex drive because you are getting rid of an addiction like when a smoker gives up and has bad cravings but it goes away eventually...

If someone is doing something without bad consequences that by definition means it is not "bad". But smoking, PUFAs, addictive drugs, do have bad consequences and this has been proven. Just because you dont visibly see with your eyes the damage of smoking on the lungs doesnt mean its not there.

This is just beyond stupid. NoFap does not lower sex drive. It increases it exponentially because of built up sexual tension. If you have a much lower sex drive now because of nofap, congratulations... you castrated yourself and you feel good about it. Your intense shame about sex or masturbation or sexual things of any kind has lowered your sex drive. I hate to pull in ray peat in the convo that stopped being scientific awhile ago and is now just rambling nonsense that ejaculation is bad, porn is bad. One of the worst things for your metabolism, your well-being is shame. The more intense the shame the more it negatively affects your physiology. Shame is just another form of stress and is one of the strongest.

@lampofred I’m not quoting him out of context... I’m using a generalized statement he made that could and does relate to multiple things including this topic... (carb denial , saturated fat denial ,etc)

“He’s not saying that anything that makes you feel good is good for you.” Wow, amazing insight. I never said that he did and obviously he (and I) don’t think that. I brought it up because it was relavent to the statement jing made and this topic as a whole... I can’t believe I have to explain all this. If you can’t see how dumb and problematic a statement like this is I don’t know what to say:

“Well said, it's crazy to think something with so much pleasure won't have consequences.“

In a desire to not waste anymore time I’m not posting anymore in this circle jerk of a thread. jerking off would be a much better use of anyone’s time. Have fun being sexually repressed and scientifically/reality illiterate. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: there’s just no hope for some of you guys.

You are contradicting yourself. First you are saying if something doesn't have bad consequences for you, then it is not bad. But then you are saying the exact opposite, that even if you don't notice that something is harming your body it doesn't mean that the harm is not happening.

I think sex drive is driven by nitric oxide and estrogen. You can have sky high testosterone but if aromatase is low because of high CO2 then you won't feel a compulsion to masturbate. Wanting sex with women is different and is related to high dopamine. But masturbation works just like an SSRI to relieve stress, it numbs you and lowers awareness.

What is bad imo is ruminating about sex and then forcing yourself to not ejaculate (edging) because that is the kind of thing that will cause hysteria.

Well I still have sex with no ejaculating and my sex drive stays high lots higher than when I ejaculate daily,I also get erections a lot faster and easier and my erection quality is tons better than when I ejaculate so is the sensitivity, but it's not like an addictive libido it's different like if I was to ejaculate daily I would have a craving to ejaculate again even though it wouldn't even feel good it's the same sort of craving I would get when I would try to quit smoking I want it not need it ... Libido I have when not ejaculating is much better I will only really feel to do stuff when around my girl and when we do stuff it feels so much better. Lots of people report lower sex drive for awhile on no fap which comes back stronger but better like I said.

It's not a general quote, I've read it in his book and it applies specifically to calorie restriction. He talks about it right afterwords. But I'm not trying to convince you of anything, just wanted to share that I think masturbation is a symptom of more acetylcholine/learned helplessness/nitric oxide than is optimal. But what you do is up to you obviously.

True, yet irrelevant. A harmful act is not made beneficial just by being able to withstand its consequences. At best, a non-beneficial action can become consequentially insignificant. This alone is a poor justification for indulging in it.

Yes there is a refractory period after ejaculation, there are of course hormonal effects afterward, but this is not significant.
Is this what you know, or what you want to think? To me it looks like pure speculation on your part. Prolactin for example stays elevated for several days, released in lessening waves until homeostasis is once again reached.

Sexuality is adaptive. You have conditioned yourself to frequent release, thus your body now requires it. It would be a mistake to interpret blinding libido as a state of healthiness. Healthy libido is always present, never overwhelming. If your experience is something else, you are for one reason or another experiencing an inability to harness your sexual energy for other pursuits. Of course, if all you do is sit around and fantasize about girls, you are going to get little out of this.

The only people that can do nofap long term are those who do not have a strong sex drive or somehow lower their own sex drive through several means.
Certainly a comforting thought, is it not? "It's not me, it's others!"

Do you think these people don't "ejaculate"(have sex)? What about professional sports, they push their bodies to the limit surely.
Like Muhammad Ali? Are you comfortable with claiming his absolute dominance over every other boxer of his time had nothing to do with his willingness to abstain for months before every fight? The top individuals of any field, nearly without exception, have highly developed sexual natures. They have mastered their own sexualities to the point where they are no longer hindered by them. They don't feel the need for "sexual release" as you put it, rather, they have learned to embrace it and allow it to energize them in other pursuits.

I'm not sexually repressed I pretty much have daily sex thanks to no ejaculating this would not be possible if I ejaculated daily it also feels lots better aswell
