Why? They have all the capital and the clerks and petty-booj are happy to parrot and enable what ever the people who pay them and they watch on TV want them to doIt's astonishing and disgraceful that this hasn't fallen apart yet.

And they're selling it as empowering the individual, that it is pro-privacy. Looks like Our Great Protector, Desantis, has Florida onboard- among many other Republican states. Which, of course, means it will be in every state and in short order. In other words, there are more virus pandemics coming which they're already aware of.
And yet another Orwellianism: Surveillance is Privacy. And they're selling it as empowering the individual, that it is pro-privacy. Looks like Our Great Protector, Desantis, has Florida onboard- among many other Republican states. Which, of course, means it will be in every state and in short order.
Agreed—technology really was never on the neutral path: it had one end in mind, though the common Joe was not privy to it. And I'm with you on the Luddite instincts; but it's fair to say most can only reject tech so much before they forfeit their ability to survive—at least with any level of comfort. As much as possible I attempt to stay outside the BigTech centralized infrastructure—with is the heart of the evil of it—but it seriously hurts my job prospects. Eventually, it seems, this will be impossible. As far as technology goes, I wanted to believe the Tofflers that it would be decentralizing and empowering at the individual and local level. It's been clear though for a long time that it went the way of Orwell.
It may be neutral in the sense that it's effects depend on it's use; but on hindsight, given human nature, there wasn't any doubt which way it would go. I should have trusted my Luddite instincts all along.
Will telephoning soon only be possible with a citizen number? World Bank guinea pig Nigeria shows what could be in store for us
18. 05. 2022 | Nigeria's government has recently demanded that all SIM cards be linked to the national identification number (citizen number). 73 million SIM cards were blocked in April. This is how the global surveillance program ID2020 is enforced. Nigeria also already has a digital central bank money with IMF support. In our country, everything is going in this direction as well.
In an April 4 press release from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Nigeria's Minister of Communications and Digital Economy praised the country's residents "for their support in linking the National Identification Number (NIN) to the Subscriber Identification Module (SIM)."
In truth, however, support for the coercive measure, which is motivated by security and social policy, is not so far off. It is primarily about combating terrorism and crime. Although the citizen number, which is backed by biometric data, has been around for ten years and is officially required if you want something from banks or many authorities, only 78 million of the 220 million Nigerians have had a number issued, according to the press release.
After the obligation to have one's SIM card (SIM = Subscription Identification Module) linked to the citizen's number, which was already decided in 2020, was postponed several times at the pleading of the telecom providers, it was made impossible for all non-linked telecom customers to make calls as of April 4. According to a Thomson Reuters report, this affected one-third of all cell phones, some 73 million.
A dozen other African countries have similar laws requiring SIM cards to be linked to citizen numbers. This is no accident. For the past eight years, the World Bank has been pushing an "NGO" called ID4Africa that wants to push digital biometric enrollment of all citizens. The Gates Foundation and various Western governments have raised the necessary funds.
Nigeria and other West African countries are an experimental field for the drivers of surveillance capitalism such as the Gates Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, World Bank and World Economic Forum. Among other things, these are pursuing the ID2020 project, which aims to give every inhabitant of the earth a digital biometric number with an associated database drawer by 2030.
Enrolling all Nigerians with a biometric citizen number and associated database is being funded by the World Bank. The Identity Commission is also issuing Mastercard biometric identity credentials (eID cards) with payment capabilities.
Fittingly, in October 2021, the Central Bank of Nigeria, with the support of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), became the first major country (after the Bahamas) to issue a digital central bank money to which the entire population theoretically has access, the eNaira. To this end, the IMF writes:
The eNaira is account-based, and transactions are (...) in principle fully traceable. Once the eNaira is more widely used and embedded in the economy, it can bring more transparency to informal payments and strengthen the tax base."
The IMF continues to assure Nigeria of support for the project and the rest of the world that it is happy to share its experience and lessons learned with the Nigerian guinea pig in population monitoring with other central banks.
In Germany, everything is going in the same direction. Contrary to all previous promises, the tax identification number has been expanded into a citizen number, so that data from interactions with a large number of authorities can be directly retrieved under this number. Anonymous SIM cards have been banned. The only thing missing is the link to the citizen number to make the identification of telephone customers watertight and to optimize automatic monitoring. And as far as digital central bank money is concerned, the European Central Bank is working on it and the EU Commission wants to adopt the necessary regulation as early as the first quarter of 2023.
