Best Way To Eat Canned Oysters

Hi.

I've just bought my first can of oysters (from Trader Joe's, packed in olive oil). I'm not completely sure how to serve them. Are they best just by themselves out of the can? Or should I drain them and heat them in coconut oil or something. Do they need salt? What's the best drink to have with them?

And how many should I eat in one setting?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

IMO they kind of fall apart easily so the consistency isn't quite right when you eat them whole. I mix them into smoked oyster dip (cream cheese, sour cream, worcestershire sauce, green onion) or chop them and add to clam chowder.

In a pinch though, they are just fine with saltines and hot sauce :)

I may try this today as I have all the ingredients. How many do you eat at one time? Thanks.

Hmmm... I bought a can of (what I think are) the same TJ's oysters. My first tinned oysters; I'd only ever had raw.
They were green. I threw them out.

I have been enjoying oyster's packed in water the last few months and here is the recipe:

- open can and drain water in toilet, flush toilet. (don't drain down the sink)
- put in a small bowl and sprinkle some brown sugar, add a few pinches of cayenne and lots of fresh ground black pepper.
- add 2-3 tablespoon of refined coconut oil.

There isn't any need to fry oyster's in coconut oil as simply adding it to the dish suffices.

Powdered ginger goes good too, especially with the brown sugar.

I have made those canned oysters a few ways, but this one is the best and fast to make! Garnish it with Tabasco Habanero oh my!l! Worcestershire is good too if you are not up for the spice! Here is a pic when I made it ?

Here is the selenium in oysters and considering heat does not kill selenium I would think the canned should be the same. I can't say how much each oyster has, but I will be mindful to give it a count for you when I make my chowder this week ?
