Be aware Ray Peat has written against the view of melatonin as a sleep aid and anti-oxidant [http://www.google.com/cse?cx=005233684413389937395%3Ad5qfhqsz7oo&ie=UTF-8&q=melatonin#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=melatonin&gsc.page=1]

I think the vitamin might be stopping dopamine production at such high doses [http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=340338] and it would become evident when tyrosine hydroxylase activity drops in response to darkness. Prolactin is pretty much inversely proportional to dopamine and also tightly correlated to the melatonin system. [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8456892] I've been taking 10 to 20mg and I've been pretty much dreaming all night and waking "alert" like when I have taken melatonin.
