If anything, finding out more about pre-history would allow us to question the stories we tell about ourselves, and where we came from, which is important imo. I recall a story regarding a geologist studying some spear points found in mexico about 40 years ago. When they carbon dated the data, it was said to be 250,000 years old. This info doesn't fit into the established theoretical story of our beginnings, so the info never made it into mainstream. The geologist was blacklisted, and never again worked as a geologist, which is typical with anyone trying to get information like this to the masses. This might lead to the possibility that Atlantis (whatever that may be), to be much older than we can comprehend. Not to mention the possibility that intelligent beings were living on the Americas a quarter million years ago. Or on the flip side, that the way we date historical pieces (carbon dating, etc), might not be entirely accurate after all.
We crave energy, so the importance of finding out ancient ways of controlling energy will always be useful. I personally would love to know how these civilizations we able to move & lift 100 tone rocks, and without damaging them to-bout. We've built upon prior technologies & discoveries, but there's also a lot that has been totally lost. it's definitely worth looking into.
