Just my 2 cents, I used bcp for 7 years as an early HRT in my 30s. The pores on my face were much smaller on it than they are now...... However, like the article says, estrogen did make my body fat % increase. The longer I used it, it seemed to have other damaging effects despite the positive effect on my skin...... Idk. I feel better off it, but am not sure I'm going to age well without estrogen replacement. 50% of the estrogen I used to have is still a lot less, and this is why some women still use it even though it causes cancer.

Great article. I want to print it out and give it to every woman I know. Heck, even women I don't know.

I sound like a broken record, I know. I heard the John Lee progesterone info first in the late 90s, right before I turned 30 which is when my periods went bad. It would never have occurred to me to use bioidentical estrogen or the birth control pill as HRT if I hadn't started reading about it a few years later in the mid 2000s. There are some MDs who say they bcp because it shuts the ovaries down can put them "at rest" which helps a woman to manage the perimeopausal hormonal cycling. Either that or full-blown combined HRT with estrogen is suggested........ :? The idea being that if you start early you get a "window" of opportunity in which to "replace" hormones before menopause which helps "prevent" cancer. And also helps manage perimenopausal problems like adult acne, etc.

A few years ago I had a hormonal panel done and went to see an ant-aging skin care speicialist. She did say I needed mainly progesterone (and co-q10, for "energy"), but after I demanded estrogen, she prescribed it. It was a combined bioidentical cocktail with a ton of progesterone to balance the estrogen. I only took it for a little while, but it was kind of awesome. My skin looked instantly better though my sleep wasn't really improved. I've read on forums that the BHRT cocktail doesn't work over the long term, which really sucks because most never get their symptoms managed. It's pretty common to read about prolonged suffering that goes on well past menopause, in to the 60s and beyond, irregardless of hormonal replacement.
