4 Years ago I was given 2 drugs for a stomach bug, which was the beginging of the end for me, In my case, I was prescribed Ciprofloxcin 500mg of and 500mg of metronidazole twice a day for 14 days. Within the first couple of days taking the antibiotics I knew something didn’t feel right, but I continued to take them as prescribed. Another day passes and I had a massive panic/anxiety attack, it felt as if my body was shutting down and I was going to die within a few minutes. After suffering all night long I visited the Dr again and told the Dr it feels as if I’m dying, something is incredibly wrong I have never felt this way in my entire life. He researched the side effects/symptoms of the antibiotics he prescribed and based on what he read he told me to stop taking it and see if there was any improvement. I made it another few days before I couldn’t handle it, my side effects were so bad. Less than a week later (of being off the pills) I went into work and was hit with another extreme panic attack, couldn’t breath again extreme dizziness like my body was shutting down I told a coworker that I felt as if I was dying, I couldn’t walk, and I needed him to call an ambulance immediately. From that point on, my life has changed forever. I had to stop work and spend the next 8 months constantly in and out the emergency room at multiple hospitals, specialists, and my GP’s office. I had multiple ECGs done, CT scans, ultrasounds, an MRI, and many rounds of blood work. I became delusional / depersonalized and suffered derealization, I was completely paranoid of life and in awe of my existence. I cried every single day, I suffered with constant anxiety, severe panic attacks, neuropathy (numbness in my arms and head), neuralgia (electricity in my brain/brain zaps), tremors, body shivers, ), hopelessness, intense fear, tunnel vision, loss of vision, memory loss, loss of dexterity, inability to concentrate, inability to walk or control my body properly, agoraphobia, low blood pressure, high blood pressure, suicidal ideations, fear of dying, fear of living, and the list goes on and on. One Dr in the emergency room thought I had MS, but ruled it out after checking numerous blood work results. I was even prescribed Valium a benzodiazepine) to calm my “anxiety”, even though I never had anxiety outside of it being chemically induced. This caused even more issues as I eventually had to stop taking it, no tapering involved. I ended up losing 30lbs over the course of , but over the last 2 years have just started to gain some weight back.

Ongoing and current symptoms POTS increased heart rate and blood pressure from sitting to standing, weird internal vibrations at rest, balance issues when walking feel like a cant take deep breath hard to breathe, muscles sourness shoulder and neck, sensitive to smoke smells dust etc, sensitive to actual vibrations motors running etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

I suffered so bad over the past 4 years with no answers from MS medical model what so sever problem is there is not real pathology found new blood tests etc, only clinical test Tilt table and blood pressure heart rate diagnosis dysautonomia.

You took the two worst antibiotics there are, with great side effects.

Not sure what you can do about it except wait and maybe fast to try and rid your fat storages faster from the medications.

Get your digestion well. Avoid anything that is hard to digest. Start with ruminant meat and animal fat as an exclusion diet. Then see how you do with raw honey and fruits. Dairy is great food but hard to digest. So you have to see how you do with it. Avoid plant oils, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds etc. See how you do with root vegetables.
Use the Peat mushroom soup to improve digestion and nutrient absorption. Remove any gut infection if there are some.
You need a ton of nutrients. Eat a lot of gelatinous cuts of red meat and liver (also heart is great for Q10).
Get a good magnesium supplement, usually magnesium glycinate is well absorbed and tolerated (avoid nanoparticle fillers).
Prolotherapy might be very important to improve your ligaments again (fluoroquinolone nukes your collagen synthesis). Usually a mixture of lidocaine and B12 makes sense. In particular neck stability is important.
Get your hormones checked as they signal your body to rebuild itself.
Possibly supplement amino acids: lysine and proline (for collagen synthesis) glycine and taurine (for nervous system).
Vitamin C is super important, you can get a ton from liver and oranges. See how you tolerate supplements (often contaminated).
You might have to do nutrient infusions if you cannot absorb them through the gut.
Perhaps Phosphatidyl-Choline or Mitolipin makes sense.
Try to do nasal breathing 24/7.

Lastly I would ask Ray about how to reverse the damage from fluoroquinolone. Please post the answer here as I am curious.
Good healing!

Sounds like antibiotic induced beriberi that has led to a severe vitamin B1 deficiency.

Oh man. Sorry to hear you are going through this.

I am a month and a half into something very similar altho with penecilin. See link below. I suspect the antibiotic kicked me over the edge, but I was having panic attacks before where my heart ratebwpuld elevate and I wouldn't be able to sleep for a day or two but always was able to find sleep eventually.

I'm real messed up rn. No sleep for 4 days. Then 5 days of so so sleep on beta blockers. Then no sleep for 5 days almost. Then shitty sleep for 3 to 4 days on ambien and then lunesta. Now the benzos no longer work and I didn't sleep at all last night. My body feels like its slowly dying and the doctors just want to put me on ssri's.

I think I was having isolation induced anxiety due to the pandemic that I hadn't resolved and am now dealing with (that antibiotics brought to the for front). I'm trying to stay positive and fight against the hopeless feeling of the situation.

Do you think any of your issues stem from anxiety at all? I tend to have panic attacks when I feel trapped in situations. Could be a part of the problem, if only the anxiety you prob have after 4 years of hell. I know thats where I'm at with it. Insomnia anxiety.

I suffered the same. Are you familiar with the term, "Floxxed?" There are mold and Lyme groups also that talk a lot about this condition.

Hey! About six months ago, I experienced exactly the same thing as you. It all started for me after I decided to go on a vegan diet. Most likely, you have "autonomic dysfunction". It is unlikely that you will find anything in your analyzes. At least I didn't find it. Vitamins didn't help me. I think this is some kind of autoimmune disease of the nervous system, caused by intestinal dysbiosis. I would now recommend the AIP diet for you(but with sugar to get enough calories). Any good probiotics discussed on the forum. Ray recommended B. Subtilis and B. lechenomorphis. Lots of carrots. And I also ask you very much: stay away from antidepressants! I started having ADHD after treatment with them and believe me, it is much more difficult to cope with it !

Do not despair, everything will be fine. It is definitely curable)

You are describing the symptoms of gastrointestinal beriberi brought on by the antibiotics you were given. I went through a similar thing recently, caused by the antibiotic Bactrim. See this article: Bactrim: An Anti-Folate, Anti-Thiamine, Potassium Altering Drug - Hormones Matter.

The antibiotics caused a functional deficiency of thiamine, in other words, they block the ability for the body to utilize thiamine. This does not just "go away" with time. You need to look into high dose thiamine as it does resolve the issue. At least it has for me.

I am using thiamine hcl because I couldn't tolerate the TTFD thiamine (gave me a bad headache). I started with about 300mg thiamine hcl 2Xday and worked my way up to 1 gram thiamine hcl 2Xday. When I got up to 2 grams/day, I suddenly experienced tremendous improvement in my digestive tract; this happened after being on this high dose for two days. It was like somebody had reconnected the electrical circuitry to my digestive tract. I am following Dr. Costantini's protocol here: HDT Therapy

Elliot Overton's website includes excellent articles on thiamine; here is one: Mega-Dose Thiamine: Beyond Addressing “Deficiency”

There's excellent information available via Elliott Overton's youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFqXidfUsI0vm73xsBMIQdQ .

Also, anyone have any thoughts on whether ANY of the antibiotics could induce thiamine issues? ie even the safer ones like minox?
