I'm trying to help a friend with anhedonia who hasn't bought into Peat. But I did convince him to use tianeptine, since he has clinical above range serotonin levels.

He's been taking tianeptine for a few days, and it's helped his anhedonia, but he has had some other issues now.

He feels like he's breathing in a smoky room now. I'm wondering if he had hyperventilation that reduced when he started tianeptine or he's hyperventilating now due to increased metabolism.

He's also gotten some sort of numbing/dissociative effect from the serotonin.

Any sort of advice would be appreciated.

Somewhat unrelated to the physical causes of being unable to enjoy life, he might benefit from exploring Bach flower essences to get to the "inner" causes of his depression. Physical treatments might work better then:
