Your right, the smell can trigger the expectation you are going to be fed and your body starts gearing up. Billboards can do the same thing visually.

I think making a chocolate cake must be a real trigger, then. Also, I hate it when I've gone to bed and somebody just must cook a midnight snack. It wakes my hunger hormones right up. :)
