Just ran across this TEDx vid on YouTube. It started out sounding like it could be a very Peat-like explanation to fat loss. However, the final take was “move more, eat less and breath”. Are there nuggets to take away from this? He says the #1 question he gets is “can we just sit around and breath to lose weight?” and he says no, that would be hyperventilating. However, wouldn’t Breathing in more CO2 (or getting more CO2 by other means like Bueteko, or taking Acetazolamide) speed up the fat /lipid conversion?

Most people breathe too shallowly and hyperventilate as is.
CO2 has been shown to promote fat loss. There are studies showing comparing athletes that train at sea level and at high altitude and the high altitude groups lost more fat and built more muscle after a few weeks.

@Hans So aside from the obvious, creating C02 organically through unimpaired glycolysis, you could lose fat faster with say, baking soda, acetazolamide, high altitude training masks, etc.?

Just be active. if you do sports like running or doing heavy labor than you automatic breath way more than sitting behind your desk.

The effect of CO2 boosting supplements will really be minor on fat loss, although it can still give a slight edge. But like Hgreen56 mentioned, activity will make the biggest difference. Plus, if you're active, you'll create more CO2 as well.

Bag breathing can count yes, but in the case of the study, they trained in a hypoxic chamber, so they were exposed to a hypoxic environment and exerting themselves in that environment for quite a while. So the stimulus was much longer than what you would achieve with bag breathing.

Best way to lose weight is to do stimulants like Adderall/Amphetamine.

Second best way to lose weight is to fast.

Third best would be caloric deficit with 0 fat (and thus no meat.)

But the ideal way is always one that someone can stick to long-term.

Stimulants you need to deal with coming off them as well. If you fast but eat some lean meat it helps preserve muscle tissue and remove fat from the liver (which can actually accumulate faster because of rapid weight loss) while also making weight loss very fast.

Thing is all these extreme ways are all incredibly difficult, the stimulants being the "easier" one as youll generally feel good because they are drugs obviously.

Two of my buddies bought stationary bikes at the start of the lockdown. One cut out alcohol (smart), fruit (not smart), and starch (debatable) and has lost 10 kilograms. The other continued eating what he wanted and doubled his alcohol intake (lockdown depression). He lost 5 kilograms. I have no idea how frequently they make use of the devise but their sesisions are mostly steady state (I advised that the appropriate speed was one which permits nasal breathing only).

what about same caloric intake, but 0 fat (meaning more protein and carbs)

this results in faster oxidation and weight loss, and is quite peaty
