My guess... My gut says....as a parent, not an intellectual answer... Is this young boy gains much approval, attention, time and love from his father to 'perform' this way. His father's joy brings him pleasure and desire to learn. The parents also place higher value on 'knowledge' vs playing baseball or what have you.
The young boy is smart and learned through repetition and the banter between him and his dad until it really roots (meaning he at one point won't have to go in alphabetical order etc.)
