I think they hand-made the detector (I get the impression it's a family business). It's basically just a loop of wire, a capacitor, and a neon bulb. The bulb flashes faster as the loop picks up more ions.

I imagine you walking around like a ghost buster with that thing.

The picture makes me think about the hotdog zapping thing I made in sixth grade for a science project.
That's interesting about the detector. Does sound very "Back to the Futurish."

Comtech knew I would try to tinker: they glued the screws down on the ionizer so that it's difficult to open.

You're absolutely right about the ghostbusters element, Peata. I made a review video where I nerd-out about it:

And Swandattur, what's the hotdog zapping thing, and where do I find instructions?

I guess actually it just electrocuted a hot dog. I think I was so impressed with one a kid had made in science class that I wanted to make one. I can't believe the science teacher didn't say how interesting it was, but that we never want to make any more of these things.

Nice video about the ionizer and detector!

How macabre! :) Yep, that's the the hotdog electrocutor. Maybe that kid grew up and perfected his device. As I remember, there was a wooden frame with nails and electrical connections, of course.

I think my myofascial pain might be decreasing, so maybe my serotonin is finally dropping.

I've been changing a lot of things at once out of frustration, so it's hard to tell whether the improvements are due to the ionizer or not. Here's what I've changed in case anyone else is troubleshooting serotonin:
  1. Comtech ionizer running in the room for most of the day/night.
  2. Temporarily eliminated nightshades and starches (mostly tomato sauce, peppers, and potatoes).
  3. Temporarily eliminated most of my supplements (calcium carbonate, niacinamide, vitamin A/E/K, and pregnenolone).

I will definitely post an update if the improvement in myofascial pain remains consistent. I did have some signs of depression for a couple days, but I think they were due to turbulent times rather than a serotonin crash.

Looks nice, thank you Fabiomin. Are the emitter needles fairly accessible through those holes for easy cleaning? I ended up with a Comtech ionizer because of the external, replaceable emitters, and I've noticed that the tips get gunked up pretty quickly.

Yes they are accessible. An object (I don't know how to call it) is provided to clean the needles.
