A question about coronavirus mRNA vaccination

We'll assume the "SARS-CoV2" mRNA vaccine works by programming cells to produce as faithfully as possible laboratory extracted and synthesized spike protein, to serve as an antigen to create antibodies for the purposes of phagocytosis of viral particles.

Why can't laboratory synthesized viral spike proteins themselves be used as the immunogenic agent?

they can, but then an adjuvant would be needed. it'd be like normal vaccines i think. i'm not sure why the industry wants to transition mrna, it's probably cheaper for them

That's exactly why. Cheaper and faster to produce on a global scale.
