Ray has written about agglutinin as being one of the toxins found in vegetables:

http://raypeat.com/articles/articles/vegetables.shtml

"...The toxins of plants include phenols, tannins, lectins/agglutinins, and trypsin-inhibitors, besides innumerable more specific metabolic inhibitors, including “anti-vitamins.” Unsaturated fats themselves are important defenses, since they inhibit trypsin and other proteolytic enzymes, preventing the assimilation of the proteins that are present in seeds and leaves, and disrupting all biological processes that depend on protein breakdown, such as the formation of thyroid hormone and the removal of blood clots."

A recent study found that agglutinin in peanuts promotes the emergence and survival of cancer cells.

http://news.liv.ac.uk/2014/12/19/peanut ... er-spread/

"...Scientists at the University of Liverpool have found that a component of peanuts could encourage the spread and survival of cancer cells in the body. In the first study of its kind, scientists showed that a protein in peanuts, called peanut agglutinin (PNA), binds to a special sugar chain, which occurs mainly on pre-cancerous and cancer cells, and interacts with a larger protein expressed on the surface of tumour cells in the bloodstream."

Given also that peanuts are loaded with PUFA, I shudder at the thought of how many children gorge on peanuts at their parents' command.

Peanuts are a pretty risky food.

1. Aflatoxin contamination is common
2. Peanut Agglutinin
3. PUFA (I believe it's also high in AA)
4. Phytates (Could be neutral)
5. Arachin (Could be the protein responsible for peanut allergy)

From what I read, even immunologists are not sure why peanuts are allergenic. A cursory search of google for "What causes peanut allergy" yields a bunch of vague stuff about the microbiome, vaccines and antibiotic overusage, but never explicitly names any specific antigen/protein/molecule as being the culprit responsible for peanut allergies.

I'm wondering if the high allergenicity of Peanuts is due to the Arachin.
It could also likely be the PNA, the PUFA or even the Aflatoxin contamination by itself may be sufficient.

That being said, I have purchased that "Peanut Powder/Peanut Protein Powder" in the past and consumed large amounts with no ill effects.

The peanut protein powder basically is defatted peanuts, so it tastes almost identical to peanuts without any of the PUFA. But the PNA would likely remain in the protein powder, wouldn't it @haidut.
