Ray talks about this, curious if anybody has an explanation, as my understanding is that hypothyroid people consume less calories. Anybody know the mechanism?

IIRC, he said he believes he was hypothyroid, and because of that he couldn't retain magnesium in the cell. Because ATP is useless without Mg (it exists in the cell as an Mg-ATP complex), without enough Mg you have to produce tonnes of ATP, since you keep losing it at a high rate, hence requiring a high caloric intake.

It seems like hypothyroidism can manifest in very many different ways for different people.

That's when you're hypothyroid with functioning mitochondria. If you're hypothyroid and your mitochondria is not working because of chronic estrogen, iron, pufa, light deficiency etc then you'll lose appetite along with your metabolism
