This is not a serotonin depleting agent, quite the opposite actually. It is a much more potent version of SSRI drugs. A "serotonin releasing agent" is quite different from a "serotonin depleting agent". As far as I know, TPH inhibitors are the only true serotonin depleting agents and this definitely NOT one of them.

Haidut, why does MDMA cause euphoria, esctacy when Wikipedia says it's primarily serotonergic
" MDMA has ten times more affinity for uptake at serotonin transporters compared to dopamine and norepinephrine transporters and consequently has mainly serotonergic effects." -- apart from being a mild agonist of 5-HT1 and 5-HT2

My take would be because it raises cortisol, as serotonin is very good at that. In younger people and when used acutely, cortisol causes euphoria. In order people it causes mania. It is not a coincidence that older people do not like MDMA when they use it.

Any idea why acute cortisol injection causes opposite reaction in young and old people? One could say higher pufa accumulation in old people but what's the underlying mechanism?

Probably because in younger people the cortisol supplies even more glucose than normally available and it boost metabolism. In older people, with little muscle mass left, there is not much for cortisol to dissolve except skin and brain.
