I really like this idea. I'm kind of a grazer already and have beaten myself up for it at times.

Pure speculation warning

The better cholesterol numbers in the frequent meals makes me think the thyroid was working better. Since the number of carbs were the same for both groups that makes me think the number of times you eat carbs per day is more important for the thyroid than the total number of carbohydrates. I don't think this had anything to do with glycogen storage because the people in the study were all healthy.

All I know is that the opposite.... Going long periods without eating always makes it harder to have good blood sugar after the meal. It will drop too much. So that says to me this is correct, to have stable blood sugar don't fast for long periods, give the body what it needs.
