It is generally believed that donating blood is healthy. It is also commonly accepted that eating blood is healthy. So why not eat your own blood and score two birds with one needle?

the point of donating blood is to lower Iron in many instances, eating it would be somewhat counterproductive, no?

If you have too much iron then the body will try to limit it's absorption and you end up passing through much of what you eat.

Diet composition and iron status influence iron bioavailability; however, iron status is the overriding determinant
Iron bioavailability and dietary reference values

Iron reduction is also only one of the proposed mechanisms for it being healthy.

How about just bleeding right into the gut? There are a bunch of diseases that can help with that. Some other methods are puncturing the gut or eating glass. In case those won´t work there are always blood enemas.
