Digging a bit: Pandas don't (cannot) hibernate because, it seams, they don't store fat. Hence, the only PUFA's for them is what's in bamboos.
Their life expectancy in the wild seems to be one of the lowest among the ursids. I'd venture to say due to their low metabolism
