I don't think this topic has been done. What should a peatarian do in case of nuclear fallout? What if a nuclear bomb detonates 100 miles away? 1,000? 5,000?

How much iodide? How often? Red light? Etc.

And please don't say, "If a nuke goes off ur dead lol."

Just eat what is available, you won't let you die cause of you won't want to eat Pufas or meat without gelatin

Just follow standard 'Protect and Survive' advice. From a Peat perspective, having a high metabolism will increase your chances of survival. After the Chernobyl disaster, people in the countryside eating a fresher, pro-metabolic diet, had lower mortality from radiation sickness than people in urban areas.

Testosterone and progesterone are what will protect you from radiation

"If a nuke goes off ur dead lol.

If we talk about nuclear war the rule of thumb for radiation exposure is that in the first 3 days gamma radiation will kill you instantly, for the following 2 weeks beta radiation will induce radiation sickness and kill you. For the following 3 month alpha radiation dominates but can be easily shielded by clothing and a breathing mask. So for the first 3 weeks you need a shelter and clean food & water for then 3 - 12 month. In Hiroshima food was grown 12 month after the nuclear bomb was dropped. Neutron bombs, dirty bombs and reactor incidents behave differently.

Pretty sure Ray would say, "I think keeping the metabolic rate up is important, and having an abundance of sugar, protein, progesterone, and vitamin E would be helpful."

A new low with the made up quotes. Though something tells me this isn't the first one on here.

Mushrooms can protect against radiation damage...But then again they can also absorb radiation...So move somewhere else then start eating mushrooms like crazy lol.

Well aren't you just full of good cheer!

Nutritional Protection For X-rays?

Ray mentions that radiation acts like "When you irradiate an animal's foot, the whole body is influenced; the thymus will shrink; the ovaries will, if it's intense enough, the ovaries degenerate; the uterus swells up. It acts like a systemic dose of estrogen to irradiate any part of the body."

Adequate protein allows for a well-functioning liver and deactivation of estrogen.

Progesterone directly opposes estrogen and works with thyroid hormone to maintain glycogen stores.

Vitamin E works in a very similar way to progesterone.

Hypertonic solutions of glucose and salt tend to prevent the cell from undergoing shock.

North Korea have some very nice military marching.
yes agreed

This Kim-Jong guy is straight out of a cartoon villain script...

And they say North Korea is threatening to attack Guam... lmao. So U.S.A will do the same thing as in last World War. Bomb themselves and blame it on someone else. Yes that's right the Americans bombed themselves at Pearl Harbor and made sure to get the important equipment out first. Japan hardly had a Navy at the time let alone capability to carry out surprise bombing missions in the middle of the Pacific. Nothing new under the Sun. This time it will be Guam instead of Hawaii.

if anyone thinks nukes are real research Galen Winsor. oh, and look at the photos of Tokyo post-Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings. Tokyo, like the two "nuked" cities, shows evidence of fire bombing. Oh, and the fact that each city was rebuilt immediately after the explosions. Yeah right, nuclear radiation. Had a friend Nikolai on the Chernobyl cleanup crew (they give him medical gloves and a mask). He's doing just fine at 70 years old. Again, two sides to every story. And what about Fukushima? No problems there either. People are living safe and sound.

The main thing I would take is thyroid hormone. Taking enough would prevent the thyroid from taking up radioactive iodine and at the same time keep the metabolic rate up to help deal with damage.

Potassium iodide is the go to supplement usually, but I think thyroid would do the same thing but better since supplementing with potassium iodide will eventually lower the metabolic rate if taken excessively.

Edit:

Here are some quotes from Ray I posted in another thread...

"And it seems exposure to radiation, one of the first things it does is it knocks down the energy production."

"If a very intense cloud comes by with a lot of radioactive iodine, the thyroid is the first thing that is able to be protected by eating enough iodine rich foods, or taking enough thyroid to suppress your thyroid stimulating hormone, so that the gland becomes inactive. A spoonful of powdered kelp, or other seaweed will pretty well saturate your body, so you don't take up the radioactive iodine. And some of the things being recommended neglect the fact the iodine is only going to protect your thyroid; but if you take too much iodine, and suppress the function of your thyroid gland, you’re going to slow all of your metabolic processes, including the DNA repair enzymes. So, keeping your metabolic rate high by avoiding the toxic foods is very important for your general long range resistance to radiation. the iodine danger is passed in about six weeks after the accident. So the long range things, such as cesium and strontium, you want to help to wash those out of your body after they have been taken in. Eating a calcium- rich diet and a potassium -rich diet will increase the turnover of these in your tissues. While a thyroid supporting diet, low in the polyunsaturated fats will increase the repair-processes and prevent, to some extent, those long range bystander effects that can increase for years after the exposure."

"Yah. For example, if you are near a flash of radiation (if you have a CT scan, some kind of very intense radiation), those effects will linger as excited molecules in your tissues for hours. So in the first hour after you get a flash exposure of intense radiation, you get lots of sunlight. Or, in the absence of sunlight, you want bright incandescent light that’s rich in the red spectrum. It's the red frequency that deactivates those excited electrons in molecules following intense radiation."

Ray Peat on mitigating radiation fallout: (context when Fukushima happened)

"Eating seaweed, kelp and If you have a bottle of iodine, you can paint some on your fingers and toes and soak it up some of it through your skin and all of this shouldn't be done until the cloud is actually here because excess iodine is toxin to your thyroid in itself. But If there is an intense cloud passing over then these external sources of iodine will protect your thyroid but will not protect the other tissues so keeping your thyroid function up is the ideal way to do it."

It is done by using "sugar, coconut oil and when possible a thyroid supplement"
