I can't find or I missed this information. On the pages I found https://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2013nl/dec/kempner.pdf they supplemented 5,000IU "Vitamin A".

Was this retinyl palmitate or beta-carotene?

[For the record, I'm placing a bet that it will be retinyl palmitate]
