Hey all,

Curious to know some strategic ways to lower Iron/Ferritin levels in the body.
The obvious ones I've found are Curcumin, Tannins, Quercetin.

If you have any others, please list them below!

Thanks!

Interesting. Do you know if Peat has said anything about those compounds? Are they estrogenic?

Phlebotomy is the most effective.

Drink coffee alongside anything high in iron to reduce absorption.

I think there were reports on vitamin e, aspirin and dairy lowering iron levels. Donating blood could help.

Also, what are some NICKEL chelators?

Phytic acid-rich foods only negate the nutrients in the food itself, preferentially binding to the first available minerals that are separated from the food that's being broken down in the stomach. Hence why IP6 is taken on an empty stomach to get it in the bloodstream where your lonely iron has a place in its empty arms... or so I've read.

OJ contains vitamin C... which would enhance Iron uptake from foods!
Yes, so we don’t take it with say meat, high heme iron foods.
Wish I could remember the other ones he has recommended. Coffee of course blocks iron, maybe it chelates it too..

Milk is poor in iron.

A milk diet is used in scientific experiments to induce iron deficiency in lab animals.

oranges have things like quercetin, rutin which chelate iron I think. they may not have much of an effect overall on iron absorption.
calcium depletes it or just inhibits absorption like coffee. zinc, copper and manganese deplete iron. copper helps properly utilize iron but also depletes it if you take high enough amounts

IP6 is phosphorylated form of inositol....from the studies I've read this is used for iron issues.
